Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. A UK 1st Edition 14th impression hardback copy indicated on both the copyright page and the bottom of the front flap of the dust jacket. The first book in the author's famous 'The Lord of the Rings' Trilogy. - The book is in good condition, with a push to the top and bottom of the spine and a light stain to the bottom of the spine that continues to the bottom of the reverse board. Bumps to the outside corners of the front and reverse board. The page block is sunned, but maintains its red stain to the top as issued, but this has some spots of lighter staining. Internally, both the front and reverse pastedowns have a 3cm wide horizontal abrasion where it would appear the dust jacket had been attached to the book itself. There is also a contemporary gift inscription to a previous owner on the front free end paper. The map to the reverse is complete with no evidence of flaws. - The dust jacket is in fair condition only as it has had a clear cover pasted onto it that cannot be removed. It has had its price clipped leaving a rectangular hole. Chipping and tears with loss to the bottom of the spine cover, extending to the bottom of the front and reverse cover. Some smaller chips and tears to the top of the spine cover. The front cover also has an approx. 5cm curved closed tear at the top, and this has been secured by a previous owner using tape to the under-side of the jacket.
