Pictorial Library Binding. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine in Archival Plastic Cover. Reissued Edition. A lovely reissue edition signed for Parrish Books by Maurice Sendak on the half-title page. Date of publication unknown but it was after 1990 when HarperCollins began publishing under that name. Originally published in 1957, this was the first book by Maurice Sendak as both author and illustrator. It is the story of a little boy frustrated that his mother is too busy to answer all of his questions so he gathers together the horse who wanted to dream, the cat who wanted to sing and the sparrow who wanted to eat crumbs from a King's plate, and they head to "Very Far Away" where everything would be perfect. In fine pictorial library binding with a fine dustjacket in plastic cover. Maurice Sendak has been awarded countless awards for illustration of children's books, including the Caldecott Medal, 1964 (for Where the Wild Things Are); Hans Christian Andersen International Medal, 1970; Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, 1983; Jewish Cultural Achievement Award, 1988; National Medal of Arts, 1996.

Book is VG; clean and tight; DJ is good with a small chip at head of spine; very rare signed copy; authored and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, published six years before he hit it big with Where the Wild Things Are. The price of $3.50 indicates at the very least a later dust jacket. The blurb on the back on Sendak mentions the Caldecott Medal so that 1964 or later. Note: I just acquired eleven signed Sendak and am seeking a collector who is interested. They are: Where the Wild Things Are, Hurry Home Candy, Hector Protector And As I Went Over The Water, Very Far Away, A Very Special House, The Wonderful Farm, Shadrach, In The Night Kitchen, Seven Tales, and Nutcracker. All are signed and illustrated by Sendak. BEVFR.
