Hardcover. Condition: Poor. First Edition. Bound volume containing the 12 monthly issues for the year 1814. [iv], 672 of ? pages + frontispiece + plates (some folding). Last few leaves of the December issue missing (the last page present is page 672). Contemporary boards, very rubbed and worn and stained. Page dimensions: 229 x 136mm. Loss to lower corners of title leaf, with loss of "Jones" from the imprint. Edges of leaves rubbed and worn. Folding plates creased and dampstained with tears and losses. Some old mould stains. Some text leaves torn and creased. Binding poor. This volume contains a complete serialized article "Biography and Voyages of Captain Matthew Flinders". This article is on the following pages: August issue, pages 398-402 (1/2" abrasion on page 398 with loss of the letters "is ver", 3" tear to inner blank margin of pages 401-402); November issue, pages 614-620 (good condition); December issue, pages 655-660 (old mould stains to inner corners of leaves). "Captain Flinders survived the completion of his Work only three days, - leaving behind him a lasting memorial of his skill, enterprise, and unwearied industry, in promoting those objects which were entrusted to his care; - and holding out to future navigators an example of patience, perseverance, and resolution amid the greatest dangers and difficulties, worthy of the closest imitation." - page 397.; 8vo.
