Published by Algonquin Publishing Company
Seller: Brothertown Books, Deansboro, NY, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Good. This is the Algonquin Publishing Company's reprint (circa 1936) of "The Bam Bam Clock", by J. P. McEvoy. The book was Illustrated by Johnny Gruelle. In the story, Dorothy Mary, a lazy little girl, meets the Fairy Queen and her bevy of tiny fairies. By means of "The Bam Bam Clock" the fairies teach Dorothy Mary to pay attention to schedules, so that she is not late for meals, bed-time. This children's fairy story contains a few mentions of Raggedy Ann in the text, and five color depictions of Raggedy Ann. At the time this book was first published (1920), these were, if not the first, then very early depictions of Raggedy Ann outside of the Raggedy Ann series. As far as the text goes, Raggedy Ann plays no active part in the story, other than that she is mentioned as being there, almost like part of the landscape. In the pictures Raggedy is shown in a more "active" role. Aside from the instructional nature of the story, it is a delightful production, with Dorothy Mary learning and playing amidst the many tiny fairies. ************************************************* At the beginning of the book, on the verso of the flyleaf, is a song, with printed music, by Jessie Moore Wise : "Good Morning Song" ("Tick tock Tick tock Good Morning to you Another bright morning of bird song and dew .") **************************************************** SERIES : Algonquin Sunny Books (No. 109) / TITLE : The Bam Bam Clock / AUTHOR : J. P. McEvoy (1897 - 1958) ; Jessie Moore Wise (Author of "Good Morning Song" at front of book) / ILLUSTRATOR : Johnny Gruelle (1880 - 1938) / IMPRINT : Algonquin Publishing Company / PLACE : New York / DATE : No date - [Copyright re-established 1936] / PHYSICAL DETAILS : Illustrated children's board hardcover; color illustrations throughout, color end-papers; one song with written music; 44 unpaginated pages (count includes free end-papers, title page and the such); approx. 5 3/4" x 7 3/8"; color-pictorial paper-covered boards, (with front and rear boards displaying different pictures; binding is stapled (2) and glued; Lacks spine covering. ************************************************************ CONDITION - GOOD - This is a previously owned book which had seen considerable use, with the following imperfections and particulars noted : EXTERIOR - The spine lacks its paper covering (as is so often the case with this edition); there is surface loss to both boards along the spine; board edges are abraded; surface rub and abrasion is moderate. / BINDING - Staples are rusted; No leaves are detached or loose and the whole remains fairly solid. / INTERIOR - Scattered finger smudging (maybe there should have been a Bar Bar Soap book published); scattered mild surface wrinkling; a few spots . basically displays nicely, with bright colors. An old penciled price on the front flyleaf has been erased, but is still just discernible - else the book is free of writing and marking; there are no signatures, no scribbling.
