Pas moins de neufs éditions françaises voient le jour entre 1575 et 1579. Le texte est attribué è Henri Estienne, Théodore de Bèze, Jean de Serre, Pierre Pithou ou Innocent Gentillet mais sans preuve ni certitude aucune. La légende noire de la Reine Catherine prend ses racines dans ce pamphlet qui tend è montrer que toutes ses actions visent è détruire le royaume de France avec, en premier lieu, la responsabilité de la Saint Barthélémy. Bon exemplaire.

Recueil des principaux pamphlets qui contribuèrent à établir pour des siècles la légende noire de Catherine de Médicis dans la mémoire collective, comme l'incarnation de la noirceur, du machiavélisme et du despotisme. Il faudra attendre la seconde moitié du XXe siècle pour que cette historiographie traditionnelle soit largement remise en question. 1- Attribué par les contemporains à Henri Estienne, ce pamphlet pourrait avoir également comme auteur Jean de Serres, Théodore de Bèze, ou Innocent Gentillet. "Pamphlet très violent, écrit pendant la régence de 1574 contre la tyrannie et les 'vices' de Catherine de Médicis, histoire des guerres de religion où les responsabilités sont rejetées sur la reine.
