Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: very good +. First Edition. First printing, octavo size, 283 pp., inscribed by Cecelia Holland. Cecelia Holland (b. 1943) has written, to date, over twenty historical novels which span both the globe and time. In addition, she has authored a multitude of other fictional series, as well as short stories, children's books, and non-fiction. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1981-1982. In this work, "The Death of Attila", her seventh published historical novel, Holland reaches back to the fifth century (453 CE). In the harsh world of the Huns, an unlikely friendship springs up between a Hunnish warrior and the son of a subject king. Note that we have several other volumes of Holland's historical fiction, many of them signed; if you are searching for a particular title, please do let us know. ___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full black cloth over boards boards, gilt debossed lettering on the front board and spine, red top-stain, inscribed by the author on the title page ("To Larry") in blue ink; octavo size (8 1/2" by 5 3/4"), pagination: [2] [i-vi] [1-2] 3-273 [2]. The dust jacket shows the original price of $6.95, both panels with photos from "Bulgaria's Treasures from the Past" ("Medallions on the Ewer"), summary of book on front flap, author picture and bio on the back flap. ___CONDITION: Volume fine overall, with clean boards, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; a hint of sunning to the top edge of the boards, else fine. The dust jacket better than very good, it is not price-clipped, clean, with some overall edgewear most noticeable at the tail of the spine with small chips at the joints (no loss of lettering), a prior bookstore owner wrote through the printed price with blue ink, a short vertical crease at the bottom of the front panel, and sunning to the spine. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Book First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1954 (copyright is dated 1953 for this January 1954 issue). The January, 1954 issue of Fate Magazine (issue no. 46) in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold's cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 130 pp. A Fine - yes, Fine - copy (see scans), which is virtually unheard of in this fragile series. Highest Grade, particularly for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. See scans. This issue features articles on the Tahitian Fire Walk; Tea Leaves; Rosa Menichelli; an ancient Greek Ghost; a haunted house; Past Lives; a Near-Death Experience; Psychokinesis; Psychic Research; William Blake; Attila von Sealay; and of course much else, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves. Interior art and photography is largely uncredited. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. l48n.
