Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm "hi-fi Monaural" vinyl record, Philips PHM-200-159. We have two of these, one very-good-plus in very-good-plus (with a previous owner's name to jacket verso) and one showing "very good" vinyl (numerous light scratches) in a "near mint" glossy cardboard jacket. The hep sextet, suited up in red blazers and black bow ties (hey, it was New Jersey), include Sonny Richards on either drums or trombone (that's what it says), Ronnie Olsen's guitar, Pete Masters on keyboards, Louie "Loops" Lupo on sax, etc. Here, the swingin' combo invite their Cape May patrons to dance the "frug, bird, watusi," et al. (The Lindy? Really?) to their versions of Richard Penniman's "Lucille," Ray Charles' "What'd I Say," a cover of the Beatles "All My Loving," and their own "The Kangaroo" (which is "rapidly becoming a popular new dance sensation at discos everywhere," we're assured by album notes scribbler Dick Lockte -- with "everywhere" presumably meaning "everywhere between Atlantic City and Dover, Delaware.") Hey, it was a moment in time, called "1964." "Do the Kangaroo!" Reduced from $20.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm vinyl disc, Cindy Records C-MB-1, very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good-plus cardboard jacket showing only minor corner rub, signed X 5 to back of jacket by Walt (accordion); John (bass); Emil (sax), and Gene (appropriately signing on the drumhead.) The fifth signature reads "Vera Lee." Sisters Vera and Sonia were known to sing with the band, especially during their time at the Showboat in Las Vegas. Hailing from Chester, Pennsylvania, the foursome were considered a rockabilly act, touring and recording with Bill Haley and the Comets, when they had chart hits with "Muskrat Ramble" and "Crazy Street," 1954 and 1958. The brothers then switched to polka-based musical comedy, playing The Showboat in Las Vegas (where this record turned up) in the 1960s, and finally settling a bit further north in Elko (the REAL Nevada.) This multiple-signed vinyl record album now reduced from $20. Signed by Author(s).

The troupe offers "Ej Przelecial Ptaszek (A Little Bird Flew By -- a girl cries to her far off lover that her family urges another upon her and says her fate is a sad one, for he will never return to her" ); "W Olszynie (In the Alder Grove -- Barbara has met Johnny in the alder grove; never believe what a lad tells you in the alder grove"); "Szyszki (Pine-Cones -- Let me alone, Johnny, but if you need help with the ploughing, call me and after that we shall be married"); "Do Slubu Marysiu (Mary, Time To Be Married"), eight others. Jacket states "Complete English and Polish Texts Enclosed," but if there was originally a lyric sheet, it's missing. The group's "tour in the fall of 1961 will be its first appearance in North America." (On a follow-up North American tour in 1982, 11 members of the troupe defected to Canada, stating they left because they "wished to be treated as human beings with rights." Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. Cover photograph of Doug McClure & date by Mel Buxbaum / Art Direction & Production by Florette Bihari (illustrator). 1st Edition. Yes, 40-ish, Sicilian-born Big Band tenor sax player Musso (years with Benny Goodman and Stan Kenton) tries to hop on the "rock 'n roll" bandwagon with this 1957 entry on Crown -- the Bihari budget label. Backed by an electric organ, no less. His version of Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk" isn't bad, while critics seem to agree the cut called "Speak Easy" is actually an Elmore James tune -- though whether it's "I Believe" or "Dust My Broom" no one agrees (some arguing that Elmore James only HAD one tune.) But all that sort of misses the point. Look at the dancing couple on the cover of this 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm, "Ultra High Fidelity" (mono) vinyl record album (Crown CLP 5029, very-good-plus vinyl in a "good" cardboard jacket with bottom edge split.) No, not the strange garb on Miss Incisors. That young leading man is handsome, 22-year-old Doug McClure, who in 1957 was still mixing some Southern California modeling appearances (as did such disparate stars-to-be as Princess Grace. Yvette Mimieux, and Mary Tyler Moore) with occasional parts on "Death Valley Days," five years before he landed the role of a lifetime as Trampas on the endless TV series "The Virginian," and two decades before his sort-of comeback in "At the Earth's Core" and "The Land That Time Forgot." (Let us brook no discussion of "Humanoids from the Deep.") But beyond that, this album jacket is SIGNED by Vido Musso! Really! In green ink! (or is that pencil?) What would a Weird Vinyl / Stars as Jacket Models collection be without this? And it's now been reduced from an already reasonable $50!. Inscribed by Author(s).
