First Edition Signed
First edition, first printing. Signed by Starr on the front flyleaf and additionally inscribed by him on the front free endpaper: "To Bonita Porter - the first of my new fan club. Best wishes, Jimmy Starr. March 19 1980." Starr was an American screenwriter and columnist active in Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. The present novel was the basis for the 1947 Columbia Pictures film (of the same title) starring George Brent and Joan Blondell. With a DVD of the film and a newspaper clipping from the Times Union, in which Damon Runyon briefly discusses Starr's work, loosely inserted. Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine in black. With dust jacket and the wraparound band. Extremities slightly rubbed. An excellent copy in a bright jacket with a few minor nicks and creases to extremities and splits along folds.
