Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. A 48 page pamphlet with many black & white photographs of the dam's construction. There is a drawing on the inside of the back covers that illustrates the manner in which Boulder Dam works. Inside the front cover is a longitudinal section of Boulder Dam and Appurtenant Works. No writing on or in the booklet. On the back cover there is some tanning near the spine. A touch of edge and corner wear and a tiny light brown spot at the bottom of the front cover. All in all, still a quite nice copy of one of the great marvels of American Engineering.

Seller: Stellar Books & Ephemera, ABAA, Moab, UT, U.S.A.
Condition: Very Good. 1934 Handwritten Letter Describing Construction of Hoover Dam, on Piute Reservoir and Irrigation Company Letterhead, Marysvale, Utah, September 14, 1934, 8.5 x 11 inches, 1 pp. Single leaf with manuscript writing on both sides; black and white pictorial letterhead; a few small stains near folds, else clean; two ½ inch tears along previous folds. Overall very good condition. Unsigned letter addressed "Dear Gloria," from an individual describing what seems to be their road trip to see the construction of Hoover Dam. The letter contains some great descriptions of the construction work, including the 30-foot-diameter steel pipes manufactured at the dam itself, and the mixing and transport of concrete via cables stretching across the canyon. The letter writer seems very impressed by the work, which they and their father observed directly: "We went right down to the dam [the night we arrived] and watched the men work. Gee is that a gorgeous sight. It is so brilliantly illuminated that it is possible to see everything as plain as if it were day. No visitors or tourists are allowed in the factory, but we didn't see the sign so we walked right in. We watched everything that was going on and no one told us to get out." Letter may have originally contained more pages, as there is no sign-off at the end. An interesting account of the construction of Hoover Dam, which was built between 1931-1936 in Black Canyon on the Colorado River, about thirty miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.
