First edition first impression 2013. This copy signed and dedicated by the author. 144 pages. Illustrated mainly in colour. Cloth. Near fine in dustjacket with small stain to front edge. A book of Christopher Alexander s superb drawings and oil sketches is long overdue, and lovers of high-quality figurative art will now have the opportunity to savour the work of a modern master. Born in Margate in 1926, the son of a window cleaner, Chris drew obsessively from an early age and after the war he won a place at the Royal College of Art. He then taught in the Fine Art, Architecture, and Foundation departments, specialising in figure drawing, initially at Thanet School of Art and later at Canterbury College of Art, while at the same time producing a huge number of drawings and paintings. His enormous energy, his optimism, and his festive temperament inspired all those he taught and his constant pursuit of excellence underpinned his life s work. He died suddenly in 1982.
