Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Brown paneled cloth. Large octavo. 504pp. Illustrated with 32 full-page engravings, maps and plans. Collated and complete. The author was a missionary and amateur archaeologist who spent many years in North Africa. From 1856 to 1858 he was employed by the British Museum to conduct excavations at Carthage and Utica where his discoveries included Roman mosaic pavements and Phoenician inscriptions. A good, clean copy with some fraying to the spine tips and cover corners. There is some browning to the front endsheets and a tiny ink name on the inside cover else the text is very good and clean with minor wear but no chips or tears or discoloration to the plates.
