Hard cover dust wrapper, 191pp, b&w photos. A little wear on edges of dust wrapper, very light browning of page edges; a very good copy. Joseph Murray, a Durham miner, volunteered to joun the RNVR shortly after the outbreak of WWI and soon found himself on the way to Gallipoli, part of the disastrous Dardenelles campaign. He spent a year fighting the Turks. He then sailed to the Western Front in the summer of 1916 (remaining a sailor as part of the Hood Battalion). He writes with graphic details of trench warfare and its preparations and the tactics of the offensives.
