Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). University of Texas, 1977. Hardcover BCE Book in Fair Condition with an Acceptable Vintage Dust Jacket. Prologue by Sylvia Townsend Warner. The worn jacket and book aren't in great shape but the internals are quite clean with just a few pages that have small marks near the fore edge of that page, the illustrstions by Trevor Stubley are clear and clean--and quite fantastic. The gray cloth binding has faint dots scattered on the front, a brownish spot to lower edge, lower edge rubbed, spine head lightly scuffed. The theme for White's books is a quest for an antidote to war. White himself was a pacifist and this book was written during his struggle with the question of whether to go to war against Nazi Germany. In her prologue, Warner describes Merlyn as White's "mouthpiece for spleen", venting his fury against the human race who make war and glorify it. He sent the manuscript for this book to his London publisher in 1941. World War II and its disruptions, its paper shortages, as well as the anti-war feeling White expresses all contributed to the decision not to publish it. Texas Press discovered the manuscript in the archives of the Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas in Austin in 1975 and published it. 137 pages. 9.5 x 6,5 inches. 1977, University of Texas, Austin and London.

Book
Illustrierte Originalbroschur. Condition: Wie neu. Erste Auflage dieser Ausgabe. 176 Seiten. 18,5 cm. Sehr guter Zustand. Frisches Exemplar. . - Terence Hanbury White (* 29. Mai 1906 in Bombay, Indien; 17. (Wikipedia). Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 220.
