Light wear on dw edges other than smal piece out of top edge of rear dw (approx 1cm x 0.5cm); a good copy. Diary of a Jew in Nazi Germany. Abridged and translated by Martin Chalmers. Klemperer managed to escape the concentration camps for many years, largely because of his marriage to an Aryan. He kept a diary which details his daily life in Dresden under the Third Reich This volume begins in January 1942, a month which sees the first deportation of Jews from Dresden. In the months that follow, Klemperer details the shrinking of the city's Jewish population, the speculation and rumours about their fate in the East, and the increasing certaintly that they will never return. He himself is forced to clear snow and work as a labourer in factories. In 1945, as he was about to be summoned for deportation, he was able to escape in the aftermath of the Allied bombing of Dresden and he survived the remaining months of the war in hiding and on the run.
