From a total edition of 520 numbered copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 15 LARGE-PAPER COPIES PRINTED ON FINE LAID PAPER. Huge margins. Small 4to, attractively bound in recent yellow cloth with original wraps bound in. Front wrapper a little crinkled, chipped, and soiled. Rear wrapper a little soiled. Extreme edges of first few pages chipped and soiled. Otherwise fine and bright.

Cornutus, des Estiennes magnuskisés, etc. Paris, chez tous les bouquinistes des quais, dans les boîtes à prix divers, 1893 1 volume in-12 (19,3 x 12,5 cm) de 82 pages. Reliure strictement de l'époque signée Pagnant plein vélin à la bradel à petits rabats, tête dorée, non rogné (relié sur brochure), les deux plats de couverture conservés, riche décor doré couvrant les plats et le dos à la façon des reliures du XVIIe siècle. Excellent état. Intérieur parfait. Tirage à 525 exemplaires. Celui-ci, 1 des rarissimes 25 exemplaires de tête sur Japon, celui-ci portant à la plume le n°10 et paraphé des initiales de l'auteur éditeur. Le volume a été imprimé à Tours chez Deslis Frères. Violent pamphlet dirigé par le bouquiniste bibliographe Antoine Laporte contre son ennemi juré Octave uzanne, à propos du livre de ce dernier sur les bouquinistes des quais de la Seine à Paris. Antoine Laporte y avait été maltraité par Uzanne qui l'avait désigné comme un moine défroqué . Ce sont donc 82 pages de bile fumante et cuisante qui se déversent ici en totale liberté sur beau papier Japon pour l'occasion de cet exemplaire. Outre le côté pamphlétaire, ce livret est un rare témoignage des années 1880-1890 sur la vie des bouquinistes des quais, leurs us et coutumes, le tout rédigé avec verve et style par un membre de la confrérie. Rarissime sur ce papier. Superbe exemplaire très joliment habillé par Edouard Pagnant. Pagnant, Edouard (1852-1916), relieur-doreur. Né en 1852, commence son apprentissage à 12 ans chez Camille Lavache, puis rentre comme jeune ouvrier dans la maison Chambolle-Duru où il reste 7 ans. Pagnant travaille ensuite successivement chez Parisot, Lesort, Weber et Marmin. En 1876, il s'établit rue Saint-Dominique et, en 1881, il joint à sa maison celle de Marmin. Il s'installe ensuite au 30 rue Jacob, où il meurt le 28 janvier 1916. Le travail de M. Edouard Pagnant est recommandé par Octave Uzanne dans son ouvrage intitulé La reliure moderne artistique et fantaisiste publié en 1887, ouvrage dans lequel plusieurs reliures signées de son nom sont reproduites en fac-similé. L'édition courante sur papier vélin (500 ex.) se trouve déjà difficilement ! Très rare dans cette superbe reliure d'époque décorée. Signé par l'auteur.
