Soft cover. Condition: Good. Mentor Books/New American Library, 2nd printing May 1952. Softbound book condition: very good. Covers coated in a cellophane-like substance which is beginning to come away at front upper & lower corners and back top edge and lower left corner, with some discoloration at back; binding sound; pages tanned but clean. 144 pages; 7 X 4.25 X 0.25; 9 oz. shipping weight. Beethoven's early work was deeply affected by his growing deafness. By 1802 he knew he would lose his hearing entirely at some point. His music from this time on enters into the Heroic or Early Period from 1802 to 1812. This period closely resembles Napoleon's career which was wildely successful until 1812. Beethoven possibly considered himself something of a romantic hero, considering how much great music he produced during this 10-year period. The following, so-called Middle Period was relatively sparce and was spent trying to win custody of his nephew. Beethoven of the Late Period produced such great works as the 9th Symphony and the great mass in D major, the Missa Solemnis. This is an early paperback copy of Sullivan's 1927 work.
