Soft Cover. Condition: Fine. 8vo, br. ed. pp112. The man whom W.H. Auden called `perhaps the greatest genius that ever lived' has inspired extremes of adulation and loathing. In this penetrating analysis, Bryan Magee outlines the range and depth of Wagner's achievement, and shows how his sensational and erotic music expresses the repressed and highly charged contents of the psyche. He also examines Wagner's detailed stage directions, and the prose works in which he formulated his ideas, and sheds interesting new light on his anti-semitism. This new edition has been extensively revised. It includes a fresh chapter, `Wagner as Music'.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. LEONARD BERNSTEIN LIBRARY. Inscribed and gifted to Leonard Bernstein on January 15, 1970, by Roland Gagnon, Director of the Julliard Chorus, following a Bernstein led concert performance by the New York Philharmonic of Beethoven's "Fidelio". The concert saluted The Julliard School's first year at Lincoln Center, its chorus joining the musical forces. Inscription reads: "FIDELIO. . . welch ein Augenblick." [What a moment.] Anecdotally, this concert followed the infamous cocktail party at the Bernstein's the night before when a member of the Black Panthers was interviewed by Bernstein before a select group of 90 notables and friends. [What a moment, indeed.] This volume acquired at December 1997 Sothebys auction Estate of Leonard Bernstein. In generally very good condition in like jacket evincing general shelf wear to both. Unique association.
