'To Mr. Jervas, with du Frensoy's Art of painting, in verse, is by Alexander Pope (first occurrence). Observations on The Art of Painting , pp.81-221, is by John Dryden. Griffith 46. Bound in full blind stamped Cambridge style calf. The boards two-tone with speckled calf surrounding a lighter smooth centre, rather nicely done. The spine in six compartments with five raised bands, with a red leather contemporary label in the second compartment from the top. The front board cracked but holding well by the cords. Some rubbing. A contemporary unrestored binding. Internally fine with the odd stain. Front endpaper and engraving with ink stain. With the 19th C bookplate of Francis Hall. Contemporary crossed out signature J Saunders to the first endpaper. Note to final endpaper in a contemporary hand; 'payd the 23th of May for this book 3Sh & 6d to Mr. Shipston'. The volume measures 18 x 11.5 x 3.5 cm. Each leaf measures 172 x 105 mm.
