Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book talks about the symbolic generation offinite difference schemes, especially so-calledcompact finite difference schemes, and theirnumerical applications to elliptic equations,integro-differential equations, the American optionpricing problem, and cardiac tissue models. We take as a base Corless and Rokicki s 1995 work onautomatic generation of finite difference formulaeand numerical integration formulae of univariate andbivariate problems. We then extend this methodologyto any dimension. The new Maple routine FINDIF allowsfor automatic, symbolic discretization of variousfinite difference formulae, integration formulae, andcomputes formulae for truncation errors. Compact finite difference schemes are given forboundary value problems and elliptic partialdifferential equations. Compact finite differencemethods are also used to solve efficientlyintegro-differential equations (IDE s). Furthermore,we apply the method to solve the famous Americanoption pricing problem and simulate the actionpotential propagation through two dimensional cardiactissues. All simulation results demonstrate thecompact finite difference method is a promisingapproach.

First Edition
First edition, 8vo (220 x 140 mm), viii, 506pp., 6 folding diagram plates to rear, some occasional light spotting, orig. boards, printed paper label to spine, rubbed, uncut. While at Cambridge Babbage and his friends in the Analytical Society fought a battle with the Cambridge establishment to replace the Newtonian dot notation for the calculus with the more powerful Leibnizian dx/dy notation. To this end, Babbage, Herschel and Peacock translated Lacroix's elementary treatise on the calculus which, like all continental works, followed Leibniz. The change over continued to move slowly and Babbage decided it was necessary to provide some worked examples, which took the form of the present works. Within a few years Babbage had won the day and British mathematicians, no longer impeded by an imperfect notation, began to catch up with their continental rivals.

In -8°, pp. IV, [2], 171, 1 b., [4], 42. Una tavola finale alla fine del lavoro di Babbage. Rilegato con "Examples of the Solutions of Functional Equations" di Babbage. Bound with Babbage's "Examples of the Solutions of Functional Equations". These two works are an appendix to the translation that in 1816 was done by Babbage, Herschel and Peacock, of Lacroix's "Elementary Treatise on the Differential and Integral Calculus". In some copies an essay of Peacock is bounded with. This copy includes the plate closing Babbage's work, and it's not so common to find it in other copies.
