Illustrated Coated Cardstock. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Printing. "In 1595, almost ten years after Sidney's death, An Apology for Poetry was published in two different editions, with two different titles. For this edition I have selected the version published by Henry Olney . Between Olney's text and its rival, The Defense of Poesy, published by William Ponsonby, there are numerous minor variations. When such variants improve the sense I have incorporated them into the text and added a note pointing out the addition. And when they offer interesting alternatives I have included them in the notes." [Note on the Text] Also consulted was the "recently discovered" Norwich MS. 95 pages, with Index; plus xxviii pages prefatory matter. Covers show very slight shelf-use; text is clean and strong.
