With upwards of one hundred and fifty emblematic devices. With a preface with S Croxall. Samuel Croxall was an Anglican churchman, writer and translator. His edition of Aesop's Fables was first issued in 1722 and was celebrated for its colloquial style and is then followed by 'instructive applications'. Prior owner's inscription to the front endpaper, 'C Kirk'. Aesop's Fables originally belonged to the oral tradition and were not collected for three centuries after Aesop's death. In a full calf binding. Boards are detached. Minor rubbing to the spine, with loss to the head and tail of spine. The textblock is firmly bound. Pages are generally bright with handling marks and occasional scattered spots to pages. Good Only. book.
