Steve Vail aka the Bricklayer is a former FBI agent, who had a problem with bureaucracy and chose to be fired than let a cop killer go free. Although his present occupation is that of a brick layer, he is soon called upon when the FBI has exhausted it's resources on a case. It's been a while since I have read anything closely related to a crime novel. I gave up on them a few years ago because it seemed like they were all the same. So, when I got a chance to review this book, I almost passed because it was about crime and the FBI. I'm sure glad I decided to give it a chance. Steve Vail, the bad boy of the book is a really enjoyable guy, as long as you enjoy someone who has no respect for authority, and does things his own way. I found the character of Steve to be enjoyable. He's the type of guy you can have a beer and watch a game with. The relationship between Steve and Kate, his temporary FBI handler is one of mutual respect and admiration, as well as sexual overtones. The author provides an excellent storyline to showcase Steve's special character traits. The story is fun, exciting, and nonstop from the very beginning. I read the book within a few days, and found it hard to put down.

Hardcover. Condition: About Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Plus. First Edition. The fifth novel in Ford's bestselling crime-thriller series featuring rogue journalist, Frank Corso. This time Corso allows himself to be traded for a hundred prison guards and workers being held hostage in Arizona's new 'escape-proof' prison by an insane former submarine commander and multiple murderer. Bottom end of spine lightly bumped; lower, inside edge of back board shows narrow dampstain line, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. Dustjacket shows dampstain line on lower edge of inside back panel. Back panel also has small sticker over the upc bar code, and a pair of simple addition problems in ink next to the photo on the back flap. DJ's front panel shows a three-quarter inch tear on lower edge near spine, a quarter-sized price sticker just below author's name, other minor rubbing and edgewear. All those surface flaws noted, the dj is still whole, not price-clipped and doing its job protecting the book. Makes a good reading copy, still basically presentable.

Lippman, Laura, 1959-. Lady in the lake. New York, NY: William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, 2019, stated First Edition, with 1st printing number line, , very good dust-jacket, original price $26.99, very good black and blue hardcover, appears unused. "The revered New York Times bestselling author returns with a novel set in 1960s Baltimore that combines modern psychological insights with elements of classic noir, about a middle-aged housewife turned aspiring reporter who pursues the murder of a forgotten young woman. In 1966, Baltimore is a city of secrets that everyone seems to know--everyone, that is, except Madeline "Maddie" Schwartz. Last year, she was a happy, even pampered housewife. This year, she's bolted from her marriage of almost twenty years, determined to make good on her youthful ambitions to live a passionate, meaningful life. Maddie wants to matter, to leave her mark on a swiftly changing world. Drawing on her own secrets, she helps Baltimore police find a murdered girl--assistance that leads to a job at the city's afternoon newspaper, the Star. Working at the newspaper offers Maddie the opportunity to make her name, and she has found just the story to do it: a missing woman whose body was discovered in the fountain of a city park lake. Cleo Sherwood was a young African-American woman who liked to have a good time. No one seems to know or care why she was killed except Maddie--and the dead woman herself. Maddie's going to find the truth about Cleo's life and death. Cleo's ghost, privy to Maddie's poking and prying, wants to be left alone. Maddie's investigation brings her into contact with people that used to be on the periphery of her life--a jewelry store clerk, a waitress, a rising star on the Baltimore Orioles, a patrol cop, a hardened female reporter, a lonely man in a movie theater. But for all her ambition and drive, Maddie often fails to see the people right in front of her. Her inability to look beyond her own needs will lead to tragedy and turmoil for all sorts of people--including the man who shares her bed, a black police officer who cares for Maddie more than she knows.".
