Soft Cover Full Gloss. Condition: New. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. ### Sahara - 2003 - The Sunday Times Bestseller ### ~#~ 'Brisk, fresh . . . makes you want to go where he has gone, if not necessarily to eat camel liver.' Daily Telegraph Michael Palin's epic voyages have seen him circumnavigate the globe, travel from the North to the South Pole and circle the countries of the Pacific Ocean. Sahara was perhaps the most significant challenge yet: to cross the vast and merciless Sahara desert. Shrugging aside the perils of camel stew and being run over by the Paris-Dakar rally, he travels through some of the most spectacular landscapes on earth. For the Sahara is no empty wasteland, but home to a diversity of cultures whose long history stretches from the time of the ancient Egyptians to the oil-rich Islamic republics of today. 'A good-humored romp through the greatest desert on Earth.' Spectator 'A classic for the armchair traveller - one is left full of admiration for the good-natured patience of our genial guide.' ~#~ THIS BOOK: New Book, never been read no bumping or foxing, just a great Journey told how only Michael can, from doing it. ## INTERNATIONAL BUYERS? Printer's Device of Crossed Keys to title page. (Note: The author is not the famous explorer by the same name). Solildly bound copy in original binding, with fascinating copper plates depicting intricate architectural and artistic details. Cathedrals were once designed consciously, with deep knowledge of how shape of wall, play of light and shadow, affected the inner lives of worshipers and aspirants, remarkably inspiring within the "wish to Be", to rise up, to commune with God. The copperplates within this eighteenth-century study, magnificently reveal this purposed, now perhaps lost forever, understanding of sacred geometry, as manifested in architecture. Includes a "List of persons buried in this Cathedral", including Marmaduke Constaable, Hugh de Lubbersthorpe,Dame Elizabeth Beckwith, , Ethelrida, Daughter of Edwin the Great, Eadbert, King of Northumberland, John Negropontens, Gilbert Pynchbeck, Lady Mary Younge, Richrd Whittington (but not his cat), and Sweryne, a Danish King. ".With the Office of Treasurer naturally fell that of Sub-Treasrer, whose duty it was to provide Sacrists and other Officers to do the servile Offcesof the Church, as cleaning it, opening the Doors, ringing the Bells, blowing the Organ, &c. for which the Treasurer usually paid him a Salary of 50 Marks - Bot these Offices became extinct in this Church very early, and the Reason given for dissolving them was undoubtedly a sufficient one. (abrepto omni Thesauro, desiit Thesaurorii munus: Being plundered of all its Treasure, it had no further Need of a Treasurer." (p. 134).
