Seguono i capitoli dedicati a Rosso di San Secondo, una delle figure più interessanti di questo teatro per la sua vena "espressionista": la sua drammaturgia ricca di figure femminili complesse e di triangoli insostenibili invita alla riflessione sui temi della libertà e del tradimento. Il V capitolo si apre quindi al teatro di Cavacchioli, che offre importanti spunti per ciò che concerne il dibattito sul Novecento e la Commedia dell'arte (non a caso uno dei suoi attori prediletti è Raffaele Viviani). Chiudono la raccolta due saggi dedicati a Luigi Antonelli: il primo riguarda il suo particolare "umorismo fantastico" e gli ambigui rapporti personali con Luigi Pirandello; il secondo analizza la personale operazione di riscrittura del mito di Cassandra compiuta ne "La casa a tre piani".

La traduzione riveste grande importanza storica in quanto prima versione della "Comedia", seppur limitata alla prima cantica, edita a stampa nella Penisola Iberica. Al confronto tra il testo dantesco in terzine di endecasillabi e la traduzione, composta in "coplas de arte mayor", si aggiunge un ritratto del traduttore, intellettuale portavoce dei valori più autentici dell'Umanesimo cristiano nell'epoca dei Re Cattolici. Composta in ossequio a una prassi traduttologica che rivendica la necessità di tradurre ad sensum, la traduzione si configura come opera autonoma, quasi indipendente dal testo dantesco. Il volume è arricchito dall'edizione del testo poetico di Villegas stampato a Burgos, confrontato con il manoscritto CIV della Hispanic Society of America, in cui è contenuta la prima redazione della traduzione.

Nell'ambito di una tradizione di studi, ormai consolidata, sui rapporti italo-iberici, il presente volume raccoglie una serie di saggi ispirati al tema dell'immagine dell'Italia in Spagna e Ispanoamerica: il doppio versante corrisponde al desiderio di offrire una pluralità di approcci che, pur accomunati dall'argomento, tendano a diversificarlo secondo una prospettiva che i linguisti definirebbero diatopica; e corrisponde anche alle due "anime" dell'ispanismo dell'Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale", nel cui seno nasce il progetto di questa pubblicazione, che nondimeno riunisce anche i contributi di studiosi di altre Università italiane e straniere.
