Rilegato. Condition: ottimo. seconda edizione. In-8. 264, (12) c., legatura coeva in tutta pergamena floscia, asole con resti di bindelle, titolo sbiadito anticamente manoscritto alla testa del dorso. Carattere corsivo, un poco di romano. Bella insegna dello stampatore al frontespizio, antica nota manoscritta al verso, sguardie disotto con corte annotazioni a matita. Alcuni capilettera ornati. Carte II4-8 con minuta galleria di tarlo al margine bianco. Testo pulito e fresco, margini corti come per i libri da viaggio. Frontespizio leggermente impolverato, minime gore ai margini delle prime tre carte. Un'ottima copia. Seconda edizione (la prima è del 1545) di questa traduzione italiana di "De casibus virorum illustrium", tradotta da Giuseppe Betussi da Bassano e dedicata al conte Collaltino di Collalto, uomo d'armi e letterato stimato, di cui il Betussi fu segretario. Riguardo all'opera, nel DBI Treccani, alla voce "BOCCACCIO, Giovanni", si legge quanto segue: "In nove libri l'autore vi raccoglie, con evidente intento morale, biografie di personaggi illustri, da Adamo ai suoi contemporanei, che, dopo esser stati singolarmente favoriti dalla fortuna, furono alla fine precipitati per la loro follia e il loro orgoglio in un abisso di miseria. L'impianto erudito-moralistico dell'opera ne giustifica la straordinaria fortuna negli ambienti umanistici e paraumanistici europei durante tutto il Rinascimento e fino alle soglie del XVIII secolo, fortuna attestata dalle numerose edizioni e dalle versioni italiane, francesi, inglesi, spagnole, tedesche. Le notizie storiche sono attinte a cronache e repertori medievali, da Paolo Diacono a Paolino Minorita, e trovano un preciso riscontro negli abbondanti materiali raccolti in alcune sezioni del cosiddetto Zibaldone autografo magliabechiano. Per il lettore moderno sono di maggiore interesse i capitoli dedicati a fatti e persone degli ultimi tempi, come la descrizione della persecuzione dei Templari, il ricordo di Carlo I d'Angiò, la tragica fine di Filippa di Catania favorita della regina Giovanna, il quadro dell'esecrata tirannide del duca d'Atene: sono pagine in cui sopravvive, e si fa strada faticosamente fra i pesanti paludamenti di una pur sincera eloquenza moralistica, almeno un'ombra dell'antico gusto narrativo e aneddotico."
