Later Quarter Leather hardback. Condition: See Description. First Edition. 1854. First edition. 72pp. This is scarce little book containing a satirical poem that the author wants to be "considered merely a specimen of literary Punchism, and to be received everywhere as such". Published under the name of "An Ultra-Tory Philo-Pope" the author was William Brown Nivison (1793-1858) a minister of the Scots Church, Amsterdam and sometimes assistant at Dalkeith, and published several works on religious matters as well as satirical poems. The book was originally bound in card wrappers, which are present, and has been recased in marbled paper covered boards with a leather spine and gold titling on the spine. This recasing is probably from the late 19th century. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the boards. The corners are lightly bumped with wear and a little damage and loss to the paper covering the corner tips. The contents are tight and clean with some soiling and foxing on the original card covers and a little light foxing on the first and last few pages. The author's name has been neatly written on both the original front cover and the title page. The endpapers are browned with no inscription.

Half-Leather. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Book plate inside front board; 'Thomas Dick, Schoolhouse, Kirknewton'. This is a rare work consisting of 96 pages between each of which has been bound a faintly lined blank sheet. Further more, at the end of the book there are a further approx 150 pages of the same blank paper - presumably so that personal notes could be added. The book is tightly bound in half calf with gilt decorations to spine and a contrasting gilt lettered titling piece. Very scarce.
