FIRST EDITION 1989, 12mo, 150 x 105 mm, 5¾ x 4¼ inches, green thin card printed wraps with vignette of Peter, 88 pages with an introduction and note on the Beatrix Potter Society, the story starting on page 5 and ending on page 87. Potter's original black and white illustrations with verses by Canon Rawnsley instead of Potter's prose text. These verses were discovered by the Potter expert and collector Leslie Linder and acquired by the Beatrix Potter Society at auction in 1988. This is their first printing together with the images they were intended to accompany at the turn of the 20th century, as Canon Rawnsley, Beatrix Potter's friend, believed they would be more appealing to children.
