Book First Edition
(Hardcover, 1992). 1992 1st edition. 8vo (160 x 240mm). Pp192. Colour plates of flies, photographs, illustrations. Blue-green boards, spine titled in gilt. Various minor faults. Slight use but good-plus in dust-wrapper. One of the best introductions to trout fishing on river, lake and loch. "British trout fly fishermen are truly spoilt for choice. Delightful and varied challenges are offered by the stately chalk streams of southern England, the spate rivers of Scotland, Wales, the north of England and the West Coutrny, Irish limestone loughs, Scottish lochs, and the variety of stocked reservoirs and small stillwaters scattered across the country. Each type of water calls for different tackle, tactics and techniques. Fly Fishing for Trout is a comprehensive guide to the principles of successful fishing, covering all aspects of the sport: the trout themselves, their food, tackle, flies, casting, etiquette on the water, playing and landing fish. Authoritative and highly readable, Fly Fishing for Trout is a must for anybody interested in the sport, written not only with the beginner in mind, but also the occasional fly fisher and the experienced angler who has fished only one or two types of water and wishes to try others." .

(Paperback, 1992 ). 1992 1st edition. Large 8vo paperback (188 x 244mm). Pp95. Colour and b/w photographs. Slight abrasion to front cover, spine-faded but a good second hand paperback. "Salmon, the king of fish, remains one of life's great mysteries. In Salmon Run, based on the Yorkshire Television series of the same name, Jack Charlton sets out to discover why the salmon casts such a spell. He explores world famous salmon beats, from Balmoral on the river Dee to Norway and the Arctic. Jack meets the Queen Mother's ghillie, and people whose livelihood depends upon the river, from Scottish landowners who introduced 'timeshare' fishing, to poachers who know no other way of life. He watches salmon spawning on the Tyne, enjoys the beautiful rivers of County Galway and shares a fishing trip with Alaskan brown bears who compete for the thousands of Pacific salmon." Chapters include:- The king of fish; Rich man, poor man; Viking line; Up the junction; Arctic wilderness; God's little acre; Women's touch. .

"In the Yellow Pages TV advert, first shown in 1983, he was seen phoning second-hand bookshops in pursuit of a copy of Fly Fishing by J.R. Hartley. The payoff came when he tracked down a copy, asking for it to be reserved and revealed that he was the author." Daily Mail obituary for Norman Lumsden 30-11-2001. Norman Lumsden played the author in the TV advertisement. It was so popular that writers Russell and Lapsley were commissioned to provide a text for this, up-to-then fictitious, book. .
