Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -These notes are devoted to the study of some classical problems in the Geometry of Banach spaces. The novelty lies in the fact that their solution relies heavily on techniques coming from Descriptive Set Theory. Thecentralthemeisuniversalityproblems.Inparticular, thetextprovides an exposition of the methods developed recently in order to treat questions of the following type: (Q) LetC be a class of separable Banach spaces such that every space X in the classC has a certain property, say property (P). When can we nd a separable Banach space Y which has property (P) and contains an isomorphic copy of every member ofC We will consider quite classical properties of Banach spaces, such as '- ing re exive,' 'having separable dual,' 'not containing an isomorphic copy of c ,' 'being non-universal,' etc. 0 It turns out that a positive answer to problem (Q), for any of the above mentioned properties, is possible if (and essentially only if) the classC is 'simple.' The 'simplicity' ofC is measured in set theoretic terms. Precisely, if the classC is analytic in a natural 'coding' of separable Banach spaces, then we can indeed nd a separable space Y which is universal for the class C and satis es the requirements imposed above. 168 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Early in my career I was given the task of designing a sub-critical nuclear reactor facility that was to be used to perform basic research in the area of reactor physics. We planned to run a series of experiments to determine fundamental parameters related to the distribution of neutrons in such s- tems. I felt that it was extremely important to understand how the design would impact upon the accuracy of our results and as a result of this - quirement I developed a design methodology that I subsequently called prediction analysis. After working with this method for several years and applying it to a variety of different experiments, I wrote a book on the subject. Not surprisingly, it was entitled Prediction Analysis and was p- lished by Van Nostrand in 1967. Since the book was published over 40 years ago science and technology have undergone massive changes due to the computer revolution. Not - ly has available computing power increased by many orders of magnitude, easily available and easy to use software has become almost ubiquitous. In the 1960's my emphasis was on the development of equations, tables and graphs to help researchers design experiments based upon some we- known mathematical models. When I reconsider this work in the light of today's world, the emphasis should shift towards applying current techn- ogy to facilitate the design process. 224 pp. Englisch.

The last few years have seen a growing body of research and practice in the eld of arti cial intelligence and law addressing aspects such as automated legal reasoning and argumentation, semantic and cross-languagelegalinformation retrieval, document classi cation, legal drafting, legal knowledge discovery and extraction. Many e orts have also been devoted to the construction of legal ontologies and their application to the law domain. A number of di erent workshops and conferences have been organized on these topics in the framework of the arti cial intelligence and law community: among them, the ICAIL (International Conference on Arti cial Intelligence and Law) and the Jurix (International Conference on Legal Knowledge and Inf- mation Systems) conferences; several workshops on legal ontologies have been held by the AI&Law Association (LOAIT) and by the Legal XML Community (LegalXMLWorkshopsandLegalXML Summer School). In allthese events, the topics of languageresourcesand human language technologiesreceiveincreasing attention. The situation is quite di erent within the computational linguistics com- nity, where little attention has been paid to the legal domain besides a few isolated contributions and/or projects focussing on the processing of legal texts. 264 pp. Englisch.

After Toronto, Sydney and Nara, the conference has now returned to Europe. Pervasiveis one of the most important conferences in the area of pervasive and ubiquitous computing. Asinthepreviousyear, wehadtwocategoriesoftechnicalpapers:FullPapers and Notes. Pervasive attracted 157 valid submissions, from which the Technical Program Committee (TPC) accepted 24 full papers and one note, resulting in an overall acceptance rate of 16%. The submissions included 628 authors from 27 countries representing all the continents (except Antarctica). As we can see from these gures, Pervasive is a truly global highly competitive conference. A major conference such as Pervasive requires a rigorous and objective p- cess for selecting papers. This starts with the selection of a high-quality TPC. We were fortunate to be able to draw on the wisdom and experience of our 28 TPC members, from the most prestigious universities and research labs in - rope, North America, and Asia. This committee was aided by the input of no less than 238 external reviewers chosen on the basis of their domain knowledge and relevance to pervasive computing. The papers were selected using a double-blind review, with four peer reviews perpaper, adiscussionphaseamongthereviewers, andadiscussionoft hepapers in the TPC meeting, which was held in Palo Alto during December 12-13, 2009. We thank Nokia Research Center for hosting the meeting. 464 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This volume contains papers from the technical program of the 7th Extended Semantic Web Conference (ESWC 2010), held from May 30 to June 3, 2010, in Heraklion, Greece. ESWC 2010 presented the latest results in research and applications of Semantic Web technologies. ESWC 2010 built on the success of the former European Semantic Web Conference series, but sought to extend its focus by engaging with other communities within and outside Information and Communication Technologies, in which semantics can play an important role. At the same time, ESWC has become a truly international conference. Semantics of Web content, enriched with domain theories (ontologies), data about Web usage, natural language processing, etc., will enable a Web that p- vides a qualitatively new level of functionality. It will weave together a large network of human knowledge and make this knowledge machine-processable. Various automated services, based on reasoning with metadata and ontologies, will help the users to achieve their goals by accessing and processing infor- tion in machine-understandable form. This network of knowledge systems will ultimately lead to truly intelligent systems, which will be employed for va- ous complex decision-making tasks. Research about Web semantics can bene t from ideas and cross-fertilization with many other areas: arti cial intelligence, natural language processing, database and information systems, information - trieval, multimedia, distributed systems, social networks, Web engineering, and Web science. 468 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Over last decades low-dimensional materials are in focus of physics and chemistry as well as of material and other natural sciences. Like Vitaly Ginzburg has foreseen 30 years ago, low dimensionality offers physical phenomena and properties unseen in three-dimensional world. To see how thin lms and monomolecular layers realize such a prediction it suf ces only to observe intensity of research devoted to recently synthesized graphene. Still, quasi-one-dimensional compounds are over long period established as the origin of the most important and most interesting discoveries of material science and solid state physics. To mention only deoxyribonucleic acid, the most important molecule in nature, and diversity of nanotubes and nanowires, the cornerstones of the present and future nanotechnology. Line groups, describing symmetry of quasi-one-dimensional materials, offer the deepest insight to their characteristic properties. Underlying many of the laws, they are very useful, but far from simple. This book is intended to explain them, their properties, and their most common applications. In particular, it is important to understand that the line groups are much wider class of symmetries than the well-known rod groups. While the latter describe only translationally periodical objects, line groups include symmetries of incommensurate periodical structures. 208 pp. Englisch.

FUN isactuallyone ofthe mainmovingwheelsbehind mostofthe bestscienti c results, and in a sense this conference answers to the unconfessed need of having a place where we can present the most lighthearted part of our work without sacri cing precision and rigor. The 5th International Conference on Fun with Algorithms (FUN 2010) was held at Hotel Continental Terme in Ischia (Italy), June 2 4, 2010. The island of Ischia,a worldwide famous spa, sea,and tourist resort,is the ideal venue to host an event dedicated to pleasure as well as to science. The call for papers attracted54 submissions from all overthe world.Subm- ted paperswerecharacterizedbyanextremely high quality andfeaturing a large variety of topics. After a careful and thorough reviewing process, the Program Committee selected 32 papers. The program also included three invited talks by Roberto Grossi, Prabhakar Raghavan, and Paul Spirakis. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Over the last decade, we have witnessed a growing dependency on information technologyresultingina wide rangeofnew opportunities. Clearly, ithas become almost impossible to imagine life without a personal computer or laptop, or without a cell phone. Social network sites (SNS) are competing with face-- face encounters and may even oust them. Most SNS-adepts have hundreds of 'friends', happily sharing pictures and pro les and endless chitchat. We are on the threshold of the Internet of Things, where every object will have its RFID-tag. This will not only e ect companies, who will be able to optimize their production and delivery processes, but also end users, who will be able to enjoy many new applications, ranging from smart shopping, and smart fridges to geo-localized services. In the near future, elderly people will be able to stay longer at home due to clever health monitoring systems. The sky seems to be the limit! However, we have also seen the other side of the coin: viruses, Trojan horses, breaches of privacy, identity theft, and other security threats. Our real and virtual worlds are becoming increasingly vulnerable to attack. In order to encouragesecurity researchby both academia and industry and to stimulate the dissemination of results, conferences need to be organized. With the 11th edition of the joint IFIP TC-6 TC-11 Conference on C- munications and Multimedia Security (CMS 2010), the organizers resumed the tradition of previous CMS conferences after a three-year recess. 296 pp. Englisch.

The conference provides a multi-disciplinary, scienti c forum that aims to bring young researchers into contact with industry at an early stage. IRFC 2010 received 20 high-quality submissions, of which 11 were accepted and appear here. The decision whether a paper was presented orally or as poster was solely based on what we thought was the most suitable form of communi- tion, considering we had only a single day for the event. In particular, the form of presentation bears no relation to the quality of the accepted papers, all of which were thoroughly peer reviewed and had to be endorsed by at least three independent reviewers. The Information Retrieval Facility (IRF) is an open IR research institution, managedby a scienti c board drawnfrom a panel of internationalexperts in the eldwhoseroleistopromotethehighestqualityintheresearchsupportedbythe facility. As a non-pro t research institution, the IRF provides services to IR s- ence in the form of a reference laboratory, hardwareand softwareinfrastructure. There has been definite progress in a world in which blanket amnesties were at times granted with little hesitation. There is a growing understanding that accountability has both pragmatic and principled arguments in its favor. Practical arguments as much as shifts in norms have created a situation in which the choice is increasingly seen as 'which forms of accountability' rather than a stark one between peace and justice. The Colombian Justice and Peace Law 975 and its implementation offer an interesting and unique approach to dealing with the international crimes committed in Colombia's decades-long armed conflict. Yet, will this approach suffice with regard to Colombia's obligations under international law to investigate and prosecute international crimes Does it meet the standards of the ICC, which has been monitoring the Colombian situation for some time now In particular, does it pass the complementarity test laid out in the ICC statute or will the ICC have to intervene in Colombia to enforce international criminal law 176 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -From our daily practice as scholars, consultants and entrepreneurs we know how critical it is to make the right decisions that can shape the future of a company. One of the earliest of such decisions is surely the selection of the appropriate legal form as it is hardly reversible and has major implications on the running business. Accordingly, we can nd a wealth of information about the pros and cons of speci c legal forms. However, so far there is only scarce information available once you decide to enter a foreign market. There are offerings, e.g. from the Chambers of Commerce and you can search the Internet. When information is provided in the local language, comprehension becomes dif cult. Furthermore, the material that is available today only seldom allows for a structured analysis and comparison of legal forms in different countries. From discussions with entrepreneurs we know that this situation has not only been cumbersome for us, but actually everybody who is thinking about starting up a business or widening the operations across country borders is faced with the complex task of deciding on a legal form. 280 pp. Englisch.

Previously,thesymposiawereheldbi- nially at European venues. Over this time, the IDA Symposium had established an identity, a dedicated group of Program Committee members, and a regular audience. However, this success had come at a cost to the original ambitions for the symposium concerned with interfacing AI, statistics and computer science for important and di cult real-world data analysis problems being comp- mised in favor of more standard data mining content. IDA 2010 was organized explicitly to re-align the IDA Symposia series with a set of objectives evolved from the original ambitions. This should be construed not as a criticism of r- tine data mining research but rather as an admission that the IDA symposium had taken the path of least resistance with respect to the call for papers and the reviewing process. This is the proceedings volume of IDA 2010, a special event held only a year after the eighth symposium in an attempt to revitalize the area of IDA. There were two major changes compared to previous symposia. First, the Call for - pers (CfP) was completely rewritten, placing great emphasis on algorithms and systems thatsupportmodelling andanalysisofcomplex real-worldsystems. - reover, the CfP explicitly discouraged submissions that might be characterized as incrementaladvances indata mining algorithms. Second, the reviewing- chanism was extended to include a senior ProgrammeCommittee, in response to perceived shortcomings in the existing reviewing process. 260 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The process of realizing the ground state of some typical (frustrated) quantum many-body systems, starting from the 'disordered' or excited states, can be formally mapped to the search of solutions for computationally hard problems. The dynamics through the critical point, in between, are therefore extremely crucial. In the context of such computational optimization problems, the dynamics (of rapid quenching or slow annealing), while tuning the appropriate elds or uctuations, in particular while crossing the quantum critical point, are extremely intriguing and are being investigated these days intensively. Several successful methods and tricks are now well established. This volume gives a collection of introductory reviews on such developments written by well-known experts. It concentrates on quantum phase transitions and their dynamics as the transition or critical points are crossed. Both the quenching and annealing dynamics are extensively covered. We hope these timely reviews will inspire the young researchers to join and c- tribute to this fast-growing, intellectually challenging, as well as technologically demanding eld. We are extremely thankful to the contributors for their intensive work and pleasant cooperations. We are also very much indebted to Kausik Das for his help in compiling this book. Finally, we express our gratitude to Johannes Zittartz, Series Editor, LNP, and Christian Caron of physics editorial department of Springer for their encouragement and support. 320 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Rather than deciding whether or not to get involved in global sourcing, many companies are facing decisions about whether or not to apply agile methods in their distributed projects. These companies are often motivated by the opportunities to solve the coordination and communication difficulties associated with global software development. Yet while agile principles prescribe close interaction and co-location, the very nature of distributed software development does not support these prerequisites. Smite, Moe, and Ågerfalk structured the book into five parts. In 'Motivation' the editors introduce the fundamentals of agile distributed software development and explain the rationale behind the application of agile practices in globally distributed software projects. ' Transition' describes implementation strategies, adoption of particular agile practices for distributed projects, and general concepts of agility. 'Management' details practical implications for project planning, time management, and customer and subcontractor interaction. 'Teams' discusses agile distributed team configuration, effective communication and knowledge transfer, and allocation of roles and responsibilities. Finally, in the 'Epilogue' the editors summarize all contributions and present future trends for research and practice in agile distributed development. This book is primarily targeted at researchers, lecturers, and students in empirical software engineering, and at practitioners involved in globally distributed software projects. The contributions are based on sound empirical research and identify gaps and commonalities in both the existing state of the art and state of the practice. In addition, they also offer practical advice through many hints, checklists, and experience reports. Questions answered in this book include: What should companies expect from merging agile and distributed strategies What are the stumbling blocks that prevent companies from realizing the benefits of the agile approach in distributed environments, and how can we recognize infeasible strategies and unfavorable circumstances What helps managers cope with the challenges of implementing agile approaches in distributed software development projects How can distributed teams survive the decisions taken by management and become efficient through the application of agile approaches 380 pp. Englisch.
