In the western Ukraine, Nazi political goals coincided with that of local nationalist organizations to produce an alliance that resulted in the slaughter of scores of thousands of innocent civilians. Through survivors' eyes, Alliance for Murder: The Nazi~Ukrainian Nationalist Partnership in Genocide documents the horrors of fascist ''Actions" in the Ukraine, leading the reader through successive atrocities until individual Jews, hiding in forests or sheltered by sympathetic local families, are the only remnants of once vital, populous communities. In addition to the chilling personal memoirs of the Holocaust, many contributors to this book also offer objective analyses of the time and events surrounding the grisly crimes of murder. The motivations and composition of Ukrainian Nationalist groups are examined, as well as the failing of the Jewish population in Poland and the USSR to react decisively to the impending Nazi occupation. During a time of "glasnost" and burgeoning freedom in Eastern Europe and the USSR, it is sometimes difficult for the current reader to comprehend the brutality and bestiality which accompanied political movements of the recent past. Alliance for Murder: The Nazi~Ukrainian Nationalist Partnership in Genocide brings to life, in vivid, authentic, sometimes angry and sometimes plaintive eyewitness accounts, the fringe of politically~driven human behavior which should never be allowed to enter into our future. This work contains dramatic, previously unpublished photographs, as well as archival documentary evidence of the collaboration of Nazi Germany with the Nationalists of the Ukraine. Edited by B. F Sabrin, an American journalist and Holocaust survivor, Alliance for Murder is a collective memoir of many authors who have consented to allow their recollections to be published. B. F Sabrin heads a Committee of survivors from the western Ukraine who, in several trips to the USSR since 1982, have compiled the documentary evidence which appears in this book.
