Jules Davids (December 10, 1920â"December 6, 1996) was a professor of diplomatic history at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University until his retirement in 1986. A prolific author, his most famous work was undoubtedly his editorial assistance on Profiles in Courage, a surprise bestseller that won the 1957 Pulitzer Prize for biography for its author, Senator John F Kennedy. Davids received $700 for his labors and acknowledgement in the foreword that he 'materially assisted in the preparation of several chapters,' but extensive revelations from many sources, including a detailed account by Jules Davids himself, establish that Davids prepared initial drafts of five of the chapters on the book. He joined the faculty at Georgetown University in 1947. His students included future United States president Bill Clinton when Clinton was a Georgetown undergraduate in 1968, future first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, and historian Douglas Brinkley, with whom he discussed his involvement in the Kennedy book.

Wraps. vi,156, [6] p. From Wikipedia: "The Georgetown Journal of International Affairs is a semi-annual foreign policy magazine published by the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The magazine takes a holistic approach to international relations, giving voice to leading academics, policymakers, and analysts. As such, the journal publishes articles from a wide range of international and interdisciplinary perspectives.Founded in 1998, the journal published its first issue in 2000. Since then, it has grown considerably and can now be found in over 300 outlets throughout the United States and is internationally distributed in over 18 countries ] Its readership includes prominent international affairs professionals, think tanks, embassies, and university libraries. Additionally, the Journal is indexed in major academic hosting services, such as Columbia International Affairs Online, ProQuest, Hein Online, Thomson Gale, and the Public Affairs Information Service. The articles are regularly excerpted by the Chronicle of Higher Education and PricewaterhouseCoopers Executive Digest and frequently used in educational institutions across the United States, including Georgetown, Harvard, Princeton, and the National Defense University. Each of the magazine s ten sections focuses on a specific area of international affairs. The first, Forum, analyzes a particular topic in depth. In the past, these topics have included urbanization, espionage, and indigenous movements. The following sections are called Business and Economics, Conflict and Security, Culture and Society, Law and Ethics, Politics and Diplomacy, Science and Technology, and Books. The eighth section, View from the Ground, gives Georgetown students the opportunity to connect their experiences abroad to wider themes in international affairs. The final section, A Look Back, recounts an interview with a prominent public figure. In summer 2011, the Journal announced that it will be publishing one article per cycle from a graduate student or PhD candidate. Graduate students from around the world can submit their articles to one of the eight sections." Good. Cover has some wear and soiling. Presumed first edition/first printing of this issue.

Connolly is Krieger-Eisenhower Professor in the political science department at Hopkins where he teaches political theory. His early book, The Terms of Political Discourse, was awarded the Benjamin Lippincott Award in 1999 as 'a work of exceptional quality that is still considered significant at least 15 years after publication.' In a poll of American political theorists published in PS in 2010, he was ranked the fourth most influential political theorist in America over the last twenty years, after Rawls, Habermas, and Foucault. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. Foreword by Peter F. Krogh. Washington, D.C. First edition. The author was Ambassador to Bulgaria from 1974 to 1977. His diary notes - witty, sarcastic, often acidulous - are good reading and illuminating about the day-to-day problems in a small post within the Soviet bloc. Presentation copy, inscribed by Herz to U.S. Ambassador Philip C. Habib on the front flyleaf, with a typed letter signed (TLS) from Herz to Habib laid in. A renowned career diplomat, Habib (1920-92) was an authority on Southeast Asia, President Ronald Reagan's personal representative to the Middle East, and a special envoy to some of the world's most dangerous flash points. In 1982, Habib was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. Blue buckram binding, with silver stamping. The dust jacket is a trifle edgeworn, with some prominent sunning along the spine; otherwise a very good copy. Inscribed by Author.

Hardcover. Covers of vol. 1 faintly mottled, and front hinge shaken; pages faintly toned, with occasional underlining; previous owner's name on title page of both volumes; otherwise very good condition (no dust jackets). . Two volumes, separately paged. The author, Professor of Economics at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, explains in the preface to the first volume that, although the two volumes are separately titled, they are intended as parts 1 and 2 of the same work (which has no collective title), made necessary because "Historians, while currently including the economics of history in their works, have not yet included the economics of diplomacy to any degree," while, on the other hand, "Texts dealing with the economic principles underlying tariffs and other trade controls omit the historical background of commercial doctrines." This text, now quite scarce, informed the thinking of a generation of American diplomats.
