No Binding. Condition: Very Good. "Memorandum" (on East Karelia) Ca. 1920. Mimeographed. 13"x 8.5", 11 leaves, about 6000 words. I cannot find mention of this paper in any of the usual places and seems to be rare. __+__ Sections of this paper address the history of the interest in East Karelia by the Russians/Soviets and the Finns. I believe that the subject being discussed here relates to the Treaty of Tartu (14 October 1920), which resulted in border relocations for Repoland Purajarvi, and the inclusion of the Aunus Expedition (Olonets Karelia), among much else. __+__ "Karelia (Karelian, Finnish, and Estonian: Karjala; Russian: Карелия, Karel iya, Swedish: Karelen, historically Корела, Koryela), the land of the Karelian people, is an area in Northern Europe of historical significance for Finland, Russia, USSR and Sweden. It is currently divided among the northwestern Russian Federation (the federal subjects of the Republic of Karelia and Leningrad Oblast) and Finland (the regions of South Karelia and North Karelia)."--Wikipedia __+__ Discussions include: --Article 10 of this unnamed peace treaty (which I assume to be that of 1920 mentioned above): Finland shall withdraw her military forces from the communes of Repola and Porajarvi.and these communes shall be reincorporated with the Russian state and .attached to East Carelia.with all of the residents having the right (within a yar of the treaty coming into force) to leave Russia." --Declaration by Russian Plenipotentiaries concerning self-government for East Carelia.and the granting of five enumerated rights. --Declaration of rights concerning the Ingermanlanders --Declaration of Rights concerning the refugees to Finland form the governments o Petrograd, Olonets, and Archangel; --Declaration by the Russian plenipotentiaries concerning the communes of Repola and Porajarvi. On page 9 it is noted "in November information arrived in Finland that the East-Karelian population had at last taken up arms again in order to drive from their territory the Soviet Russian soldier.that terrorized it".
