Hardcover Coloured Matt. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. ## THE 1906 BING TOY CATALOGUE INCLUDING 1907 SUPPLEMENT 1991 ## ## THIS BOOK: Classified FINE: This Book is the 1991 edition. Originally published in 1898. A unique catalogue of the famous German Toy manufacturer. The variety of toys they produced with at one point in time 5000 employees. Other than the first 8 colour plates of cars, the books filled with black and white pictures with full details for each toy.## ## NOTE: please read further to learn a little of the Bing History.## ## The publishers' preface includes eight pages of colour illustrating some of the most desirable items in the catalogue. 444 pages. 1423 items illustrated in the English catalogue with many more variations listed## ## New Cavendish is fortunate to offer a reproduction of the only known copy of Bing's 1906 toy catalogue. This unique publication and the 1907 supplement were published in English with variations and other items from the French and Spanish versions of the 1906/07 catalogue, and introductions to the various categories are included as a separate section. ## ## This catalogue includes many rare and hitherto unseen toys, which detail the whole Bing range at its peak in the 'Belle Epoque' of the Edwardian period. At the time, Bing was probably the largest toy manufacturer in the world. ## Gebrüder Bing ## A Brief BING STORY: TGNAZ AND ADOLF Bing founded the firm of Gebrüder Bing in 1863 as a retailer, and it was not until the early 1880s that they turned their production of tin toys. Between 1895, the date of incorporation of the manufacturing company, and 1914, expansion was rapid. In the years prior to World War I the firm employed over 5,000 people. During the 1920s, high production levels were maintained, but the world slump, which commenced at the end of this decade, proved disastrous for Bing. A receiver for the company was appointed in 1932, and at some point over the next two years, tin toy production ceased altogether. Aided by National Socialist legislation, residual Bing assets were acquired by Karl Bub, among others.## ## It is thought that the first complete Bing catalogue were issued in 1898; before that time, announcements of Bing toy material were issued as inserts in Toy Trade publications, such as 'Der Leipziger Lehrmittelanstalt' and publications such as 'Über Land und Meer'. The earliest complete catalogue to be reproduced (for the year 1902) was by Mogens Wind in Denmark in 1971. In 1972, Verlag Eisenbahn produced a composite book covering Bing catalogue material from 1866 to 1933, which lacked material from the 1906 and 1907 catalogues.## ### INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Please Note FREE SHIPPING IS UK ONLY.
