O'Hara is one of Ireland's best loved singers, she was born in Sligo on the west coast of Ireland, learned to play the harp at 16, and a year later made her first radio broadcast. She married poet Selig at 20 and when he died 15 months later she abandoned her career to spend 12 years in a Benedictine monastery. She has now returned to her singing career, works on radio and TV, and travels on concert tours all over the world, and has recorded a number of albums. Her autobiography is "The Scent of the Roses".
