" "This catalogue accompanies the exhibition 'Georgia O'Keefe', Kunsthaus Zurich, October 24, 2003~February 1, 2004." 73 full page glossy full color catalgue of O'Keefe paintings. exhibition checklist. selected bibliography. photo credits. list of contributors. fine arts. biogaphy. art history. exhibition catalogues. ~ Georgia O'Keefe is certainly one of the great figures of twentieth century art. Most people associate her with close up flower painting, with images of format~filling totem~like animal skulls, and with the mythic figure of the artist herself as depicted in photographs by Alfred Steglitz. This mongraph on Georgia O'Keefe encourages a more intensive encoutner with her work: idiosyncratic paintings characterized by a state of suspension. Her bold picture conceptions and spatial designs are balanced between image and abstraction, between close~up and monumentality, nature representation and artificiality. Georgia O'Keefe absorbed various infulences early in her career~European and Amerian Modernism, for instance, and later those of native cultures~but from the very beginning, her tonal appication of pigment and her photographic manner of compostiion served to distinguish her from the European tradition, leading her to stylizations which are even called "pre~Pop.".
