Soft cover. Condition: As New. No Jacket. States "First Edition, November 2003," but text to rear wrap of this pamphlet identifies this as the second printing of that first edition. English Libertarian (yes, there may actually be others, as he's billed as "Director of Communications for the Libertarian Alliance) Gabb reports "An Anglican Bishop nearly arrested for stating Church doctrine. Villagers actually arrested for making fun of gypsies. Museums stripped of 'imperialist' symbols. This is life in the Britain of today." (Sean, Sean: Are you sure they still want to be called "gypsies"?) The author -- who proposes in this manifesto nothing less than destroying the ideological state apparatus, including closure of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the Department of Education and Training," and "anything to do with child welfare, . . . racial equality, and town and county planning" (Yay!) -- has dated "May 2006" and inscribed this copy to the FEE. (PLEASE NOTE: The word "inscribed" means the author has written words in addition to his own name to this book -- often a salutation to the original buyer or recipient. We strongly urge buyers not familiar with the meaning of the term "inscribed" to carefully examine the scans -- photos -- which accompany this listing.) 63 pp. including index, in matte color wraps. Reduced from $47. Inscribed by Author(s).

Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Second Edition. 1996 Second Edition of 1960 original. A NEAR FINE, bright, clean, tight, scholar/collector-worthy copy. LAID-IN: The Mecklenburg Historical Association's 'News Release' cover letter for the book and a presentation copy letter with envelope from the Mecklenburg Historical Assoication's Director of Development, Mary Hobart to the recipient. From the Introduction to the Second Edition: "Was there a Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence in Charlotte on May 20, 1775? Yes? No? Why do you think as you do? What is the source of our belief? These questions fascinated V.V. McNitt, a graduate of the University of Michigan and a Massachusetts newspaper editor. Beginning in 1925, he spent thirty-five years investigating the issue. Building on the discoveries of Dr. Archibald Henderson, mathematician, historian, and biographer of George Bernard Shaw, McNitt published 'Chain of Error,' the most thorough defense of the declaration." 145 pages. "The text begins with a description of circumstances that led up to the adoption of the declaration and includes a careful analysis of the surviving manuscripts and other primary sources that support the document's authenticity. More importantly, the book makes a forceful argument that the wording of the declaration as it is known today was not based on the faulty recollection of John McKnitt Alexander but on written records that can still be consulted in the Southern Historical Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill."
