Book
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. 12mo in original dark blue cloth (with faded dark blue topstain) but with a football-shaped gilt seal reading "Prize Awarded for the School Board for London" embossed into the front board. And, indeed, a bookplate has been glued to the front pastedown, memorializing the award of this book for her Proficiency in Arithmetic, July 1902 (though what the poor lass was doing in school in July we can't imagine) to young Alice Tritton, student at the Mina Road Higher Grade School, School Board of London, Lambeth Division. This single-volume edition, itself, is a solid "good," with some modest age-toning to the page edges, totaling 517 pp. of moderately small type (8 pt., actually.) Frontispiece photo of the author still protected by its (moderately foxed) tissue guard. List of author's works runs through "Dariel" (1897), but beyond that, said list further refers to Blackmore as "the late," dating this printing at least to 1900. (This is NOT the quarto, illustrated, 3-vol. "Exmoor" Edition, NOR the leather-bound, de Luxe India Paper "Pocket" Edition, both of the same vintage.) The 1951 Hollywood adaptation starred Barbara Hale (Della Street) and Richard Greene (Robin Hood,) while Maurice Tourneur directed an earlier, 1922 silent version with Madge Bellamy. Reduced from $25.
