The wood engravings are from blocks in the Pease Collection in Newcastle Central Library.
Condition: Collectible; Fine. First Thus. A sumptuous wood engraving of Lettice Sanford printed "from the original block on a Columbian Press at his home in Montgomery, Wales" by David Esslemont. Also included is an artful 3 pg. biography of Lettice Sanford (who along with her husband established the Boar's Head Press in the 1920s) by Carol Grossman. The wood engraving and the biography together are housed in a printed beige chemise, which is VG+, with very light soiling at the front panel. This 1997 edition is limited to only 115 copies.

'Working among the State Papers in the Public Record Office in 1996, James Knowles came across a four-page dramatic manuscript, enclosed in a letter to Sir Edward Conway (1564-1631) and written in three different scripts. Although the handwriting is unidentified, he recognised this piece. as the text of Ben Jonson's entertainment for the opening of Britain's Burse, and announced his discovery - the first major addition to the Jonson canon since 1816 - in 'The Times Literary Supplement' of February 7th, 1997. It is here printed for the first time in a modernised form. An old-spelling text appears in Re-presenting Ben Jonson, edited by Martin Butler.' (Introduction).

Produced to accompany an exhibition, this work was designed and printed by David Esslemont on a Columbian press on Zerkall mould-made paper. The preface, by Anthony Tuck and Dudley Wilson, notes that this work is a tribute to the growing interest in wood engraving in the North East of England. Numbered 82 of 250 copies printed. This work exhibits sixteen of the leading British wood engravers of the 1980s. Comprising of engravings from drawings by David Esslemont, Leslie Benenson, Simon Brett, Claire Dalby, Anne Jope, Simon King, John Lawrence, Angela Lemaire, Garrick Palmer, Hilary Paynter, Monica Poole, Peter Reddick, Michael Renton, Richard Shirley Smith, George Tute, Sarah Van Niekerk and Leo Wyatt. An excellent copy of this work, which truly highlights the talent of these artists. In the publisher's original wraps. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. This beautifully produced book, printed in Monotype Baskerville on Zerkall mould-made paper is illustrated with over 300 wood engravings by David Gentleman, most of which are printed from the original blocks.
