Paperback. Condition: Very Good. An invitation to make a photographic record of a landmark time in the life of the Red Arrows is an opportunity that falls to few photographers. Award-winning reportage photographer Richard Baker is one of the few. In 2004, Britain's official aerobatic team flew its 40th display season, in 2005 it celebrated its 40th birthday and in 2006 the team will fly its 4000th display. Through this period of the Red Arrows' long and distinguished history, Richard has flown with them, photographed them and talked to them. This book is his account in words and pictures of that time, a lateral look at the team and how it works, from briefing and take off through aerobatic display to post-flight analysis; and from arduous winter training through the summer air show calendar. In a succession of visually revealing photo-essays he takes us behind the scenes to see the pilots during their arduous training schedules and to meet the 'Blues' - the RAF's crack maintenance and technical team who keep the Arrows' BAE Hawk trainers in peak flying fitness; In more than 150 stunning photographs, Richard Baker documents an emotional year for the team. He sheds new light on the Red Arrows, revealing, on the one hand, the extraordinary learning curve each member of the team must go through in order to achieve the unique standards required by this legendary group, and on the other hand, the team's ambassadorial role, meeting and greeting everyone from royalty and politicians to their adoring public. No book on the Reds would be complete without the 'pilot's-eye' view and this book brings us a spectacular array of air-to-air images. To complement his exceptional photography, Richard recounts with insight, wit and humour his months of adventure with the Red Arrows, including gripping inside accounts of display flying complete with unnerving experiences of the effects of g-forces during aerobatic manoeuvres. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. It's been over a quarter of a century since Steve and I first dreamt of documenting our three-and-a-half year relationship in this beautiful book. We were going to call it The Long Haul with me providing the pictures and Steve writing the passages recalling our crazy life and numerous adventures. But fate intervened when Steve was diagnosed with cancer in 1980. The project, like so many other things, fell to the wayside while we searched for his cure. Steve passed away that November after surgery in Mexico and I never picked up the camera again. My hundreds of pictures of him stayed tucked away in the closet for nearly 25 years. Then something happened inside me when I turned 50 recently - that's the same age Steve was when he died. It was as if a veil had been lifted and I could finally look back on our life together and examine it without fear. This book is my fulfillment of our earlier dream. I know he would have been proud of it. This newly expanded edition contains approximately 40 new photos which complement the original 150 pictures documenting Barbara McQueen's three-and-a-half year relationship with the movie icon, which includes candid shots from 1977 to 1980 - McQueen's years out of the spotlight. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. When one considers The Beatles' musical influences, several names naturally come to mind: Harold Phillips, Ian James, Vinnie Ismael, Michael Hill, Marie Maguire and Arthur Pendleton. What's that you say? Never heard of them? Well, surely these names from the Fab lineup strike a chord: Norman Chapman and Ronnie the Ted. No? Well, remember when the boys were joined onstage by household names like Tanya Day, Royston Ellis, Simone Jackson and Janice The Stripper? Hmmm. Don't ring a bell? This is the entire point of Liddypool author David Bedford's newest historical romp, The FAB One Hundred and FOUR , a meticulously-researched, lavishly-illustrated and thoughtfully-written volume that addresses the important, but largely unknown or forgotten players in the evolution of that little band from Liverpool known as The Beatles. So much has been written about the group, one would think there's little left to cover. But Bedford has ventured into uncharted territory, fleshing out the lives of the unsung heroes - and heroines - of The Beatles' incredible beginnings and rise to fame. The story of the evolution of The Beatles from The Quarrymen to The Fab Four is about more than just the musicians in those groups. Other people, like George Smith, Joe Ankrah, Red Carter, Zancs Logie, Ian James, Marie Maguire, Colin Manley and Arthur Pendleton are all important to the story as well. Excluding experimental cars, the total production of that model, spanning just over a decade, amounted to 1,883 cars, no two of which were exactly alike. These are precious reminders of a past in which bespoke, hand-built motor cars of their type were once made. All Silver Wraiths followed the pre-war practice of having custom bodies from such coachbuilders as H.J. Mulliner, Hooper and James Young. Comprehensive histories of these and other coachbuilders are included and every Silver Wraith built is listed in detail in a comprehensive table. Martin Bennett was born in Gloucestershire, England in 1949 and has lived for most of his adult life in Australia where he became fascinated by and then totally absorbed in the Rolls-Royce and Bentley marques, in particular the Silver Wraith. He has a number of books on these magnificent motor cars to his credit, the first published in 1973, as well as having been Editor of the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club of Australia journal Praeclarum for more than twenty years. He has extensive driving experience of most models and has recently completed a comprehensive restoration of his 1950 Silver Wraith H.J. Mulliner touring limousine WHD101. This is a companion volume to Rolls-Royce: The Post-War Phantoms IV, V, and VI published by Dalton Watson Fine Books in 2008. In 1950, Maserati replaced its first production car, the two-door A6 1500, with a second series: the A6G 2000. Customers could choose from several designs: a bulky design by Pininfarina, a muscular one from Allemano, the glamorous Coupes and Spyder versions by Frua, and the eccentric Coupe by Vignale. All of these versions were slightly different and were among the rarest and most expensive cars of their time. This heavily illustrated book describes for the first time the technical development of the A6G 2000, while also telling the individual histories of each of the versions, chassis by chassis. Based on the first Maserati GT, the A6-1500, the Modena-based company offered its customers the second series, the A6G 2000, from 1951. After the more competitive version with the lightweight Zagato body, wealthy customers could choose between four design versions. A succession of cutting-edge concept machines during the 1960s and the 1970s further cemented the belief that Bertone was not only the most audacious, but also arguably the most progressive and innovative of all the Italian design studios After the studio closed, several of the important concept cars, as well as the emblematic production models were either retained or later collected by the coachbuilder in a private museum housed at the Stile Bertone near Turin, and this book describes these extraordinary cars. In over 350 pages and using innovative photography, the work of 9 Design Directors and 63 of their cars is described. The book is written by well-known automotive journalist, Gautam Sen, and former Design Director of the Collection, Michael Robinson, in both English and Italian. Many of the cars have been freshly photographed specially for the publication. The vision of one man, Captain Sherman 'Red' Crise, resulted in the Bahamas Speed Weeks, a series of motor races held on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas. They started in the mid-1950s and continued for thirteen years, before ending due to a mix of political decisions, ill fortune and a shift in the direction motor racing had taken. These years have been described by many commentators as the golden age of motor racing, where internationally-acclaimed drivers attended the Speed Weeks to mix with the many amateur racers from America who came to enjoy the scenario of sun, parties and racing. For many drivers the social scene was as important as the racing, and in latter years prize money was an extra incentive to turn up. This well-researched account tracks the history of the Speed Weeks with its roller-coaster ride throughout its initial thirteen years' existence. This revised edition includes 300 additional photos, greatly expanded indices, updated information and new chapters highlighting the 2011 and 2012 Revival Meetings. The story of early post-World War II Jaguar key fobs, forgotten for more than a half century, seemed wrapped in an impenetrable mist and was only recently exposed by a dedicated researcher and Jaguar enthusiast. Bud Marston's book reveals the story of the origins and heritage of more than three hundred splendid motoring talismans from Jaguar's storied past. During the period covered, Jaguar Cars Ltd produced 350,000 cars, and most of their proud owners almost certainly acquired beautifully-crafted key fobs tailored to the Jaguar marque. But fewer than a thousand of these artifacts appear to have survived, and no living individual has seen more than a fraction of them. Marston determined to assemble a collection of these old jewels and record his research and observations before their stories vanished with the passage of time. Creatively presented with color and monochrome photographs, Vintage Jaguar Keyrings is an original work of major interest to the motoring connoisseur. The straight eight engine, also known as the inline eight engine, was the driving force behind some of the most fascinating luxury vehicles of the first half of the twentieth century. From its introduction in the 1920s through its demise in the 1950s, the straight eight graced a number of upmarket vehicles from makers like Pontiac, Packard, and Daimler, and even appeared under the hood of the hyper-exclusive Rolls-Royce Phantom IV, of which only eighteen models were produced. Although it was eventually replaced by the V8 engine, the straight eight engine can be found in some of the most valuable and sought-after vehicles of all time. Keith Rays The Straight Eight Engine is the first volume to be published about this extraordinary mechanism. Featuring four hundred images, the book is a lush tribute to an automotive component likely to never be equaled for smoothness and refinement. Haddock and Mueller include here extensive new information from an exhaustive four-year examination of the Mueller collection of over fifty E-types. As such, the book is archaeological in nature, based more on observations of cars than on factory publications or other literature. The examination of principally un-restored cars, many partly or completely disassembled and still retaining their original configuration, permitted discovery of much detailed information not reported before. The large volume of data used in the compilation of this work permitted statistical analysis of production changes that would be impossible with a smaller data-set. Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. This is the third and final volume in a series exploring the history of sports car racing in the Southern United States. With the exception of the Sebring 12 Hours, the meets were largely ignored by the national press, and no comprehensive research material is available for the numerous events organized between Texas and Florida, when amateur competition surged in the late 1950s. Yet, the South offers a rich road racing history, often fueled by wealthy oilmen from Texas and Oklahoma. Many of the events were hosted on airport courses and featured the top echelon of European sports cars. Late-model Ferraris, Maseratis, Jaguars, Listers, Porsches, OSCAs and Climax-engined cars such as Lotus, Cooper and Elva did battle with American V8-powered vehicles, both Corvettes and homebuilt Specials. This book offers a race-by-race account of all 1959 and 1960 Southern events, from Novice Races to the weekend-ending Features competition. The author has scoured local newspapers of the period for race reports and results and interviewed many of the drivers, mechanics and owners that were involved in the competitions. He provides an exhaustive report of the time, vividly illustrated by period photographs, many from the archives of Bob Jackson, the acclaimed press photographer. This is the third and final volume in a series exploring the history of sports car racing in the Southern United States. Few brands in any field carry the cachet of Rolls-Royceand its a cachet rooted in the incredibly high quality, luxury, and attention to detail that has marked their cars for more than a century. This history of Rolls-Royce motor cars runs from the companys origins in 1904when Charles Rolls met Henry Royce and drove the car that Royce was developingthrough the outbreak of World War II. Peter Moss shows how the pairing of Royce, engineering genius, and Rolls, the businessman, was the foundation of the companybut that Rolls-Royces long-term success relied just as much on managing director Claude Johnsons innovations in promoting the cars and the company. That marketing, and the publicity it generated, helped Rolls-Royce stand out in a crowded field as the market for cars exploded worldwide. Richly illustrated with little-seen marketing materials and ephemera, and buttressed by internal documents of meetings and plans, this book shows how Rolls-Royce turned its very name into a byword for luxury. The promotional history of Rolls-Royce motor cars from the companys beginnings in 1904 to the outbreak of World War II has been exhaustively researched and documented in these pages. This book promises enthusiasts a feast for the eyes and hours of entertaining reading.
