Hardcover. Black, photo-illustrated DJ with yellow, white and black lettering; yellow boards with black lettering; 196, [6] pp.; chiefly illustrations. "In Sticks & Stones, Lee Friedlander offers his view of America as seen through its architecture. In 196 square-format pictures shot over the past 15 years, Friedlander has framed the familiar through his own unique way of seeing the world. Whether he's representing modest vernacular buildings or monumental skyscrapers, Friedlander liberates them from our preconceived notions and gives us a new way of looking at our surrounding environment. Shot during the course of countless trips to urban and rural areas across the country, many of them made by car (the driver's window sometimes providing Friedlander with an extra frame), these pictures capture an America as unblemished by romanticized notions of human nature as it is full of quirky human touches."-- Jacket. VG (Ex art library with a sticker on the DJ and on rear pastedown; DJ is lightly edgeworn/scuffed/smudged; boards are lightly edgeworn; interior is in excellent condition.).

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Limited Edition. Stout 8vo. Pp. 306. Frontis. illustration. Illustrated with photogravure plates. Two-page color map. Bound in quarter vellum over gray paper-covered boards. Gilt lettering stamped on spine. Scattered foxing throughout. Corners a bit bumped and worn. Former owner's return address label on the front free-endpaper. Edition limited to 300 copies. As we've seen in other copies, the vellum spine is particularly susceptible to splitting at the head of the spine, where browsers pull the book from the shelf. Not so with this copy. An endearing, idiosyncratic look at a variety of Italian cities by a doyenne of Los Angeles society. This is the first of four books by the committed italophile, the others being Byways in Southern Tuscany, Farmhouses and Small Provincial Buildings in Southern Italy, and Through the Heel of Italy. As with the title at hand, all were superbly enhanced by photographs by her daughter, Marian Osgood Hooker. This is a special limited run, presumably for distribution by the author, of the edition published by Scribner's the same year.

On the cover McClure put quotes around the title, drew an arrow to it from below and wrote "the festival dance at the end of Greek comedies." On p. [3], where the text of the poem appears, McClure drew a star and wrote another sentence about the Greek theater.

Paperback. Condition: near fine. Large square folio in white stiff paper wraps; 385 pages: illustrations (some color); 32 cm; bibliographical references (pages 376-379). Catalog of an exhibition held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and five other institutions between July 2, 2005 and June 25, 2007. / "Over the past four decades, Richard Tuttle has thrown into question nearly every conceivable artistic convention and critical category to create an enormously inventive body of abstract work - one that embraces and intermingles drawing, painting, collage, book-making, sculpture, and design. From his spare yet enigmatic forms of the 1960s to his complex, multifaceted assemblages and installations of more recent years, Tuttle's primary impetus throughout has been to craft unique objects, using everyday, often ephemeral materials, that demand to be confronted on their own terms. The relentless individuality of his aesthetic vision has earned him standing as one of the most provocative and influential artists of his day." "This richly illustrated and strikingly designed catalogue, the most authoritative volume ever published on this prolific artist, presents nearly four hundred reproductions of artworks from across his oeuvre and documentary photographs of his creative process. Essays by a distinguished group of writers trace the arc of Tuttle's career from its inception in the 1960s to the present day, addressing topics such as the philosophical underpinnings of his artistic method; his sensitive handling of diverse materials; his lifelong engagement with drawing and its expansion into three-dimensional space; his groundbreaking solo exhibitions and their critical reception in the United States and Europe; his complex play with the conventions of language; and his innovative artist's books, many of which are collaborations with poets."--BOOK JACKET.
