Herman Broers, Dougie Loughridge, Simon Graham, Ulf Hagstrom, Ad Swier and Steve Silverio have all contributed their well-proven patterns. Four of the patterns include full step-by-step fly-tying instructions. This is the first in the new Proven Patterns series of step-by-step guides to flies that catch fish. Other current titles are "Flies for Sea-Trout - Rivers," and "Flies for Sea-Trout - Saltwater." PREVIOUS PRICE £3.95.

Condition: new. (Paperback, 2012 ). 2012 1st edition. Small format paperback (114 x 170mm). Pp32. Colour photographs throughout. Mint new copy. The elusive and challenging sea-trout, lithe and strong from feeding in thesea, inhabits the wildest places in Britain and Europe. Like the salmon it ceases feeding once in the river and its capture calls for the highest skills of the angler and fly-tyer. On the darkest nights it abandons its customary caution and may fiercely attack the flyfisher's lure, and even under low-water conditions it may be tempted by a skillfully presented nymph. Barry Ord Clarke and sea-trout experts Illtyd Griffiths, Steffan Jones, Gerhard Schive and Bjarne N Thomsen present us with 15 proven patterns for sea-trout, three of which include full step-by-step tying instructions, and tips on how to fish them. This is the third in the new Proven Patterns series of step-by-step guides to flies that catch fish. Other current titles are "Flies for Sea-Trout - Saltwater," and "Flies for Pike." PREVIOUS PRICE £3.95.

Condition: new. (Paperback, 2012 ). 2012 1st edition. Small format paperback (114 x 170mm). Pp32. Colour photographs throughout. Mint new copy. Flyfishing for sea-trout in the sea is one of the most exciting recent developments in angling. It had long been practised on our northern and western shores, largely using traditional wet-fly tactics, but the massive growth of the sea-trout fishery in Scandinavia has led to the development of innovative and highly successful fly patterns, many of them imitating the natural prey of the sea-trout in the sea. Barry Ord Clarke and sea-trout experts Claus Eriksen and Bjarne N Thomsen present us with ten proven patterns for saltwater sea-trout, four of which include full step-by-step tying instructions, and tips on how to fish them. This is the second in the new Proven Patterns series of step-by-step guidesto flies that catch fish. Other current titles are "Flies for Sea-Trout - Rivers," and "Flies for Pike." (Paperback, 2012 ). 2012 1st edition. 8vo paperback with flaps (155 x 235mm). Ppxviii,249,iii pp ads. Colour plates of flies, paintings by Ashley Bryant. High quality paperback with flaps. A fine unread copy. A detailed account of all of Roger Woolley's surviving fly collection, all unfamiliar patterns originated by Woolley himself and never previously published. The patterns "range from tiny midges to a huge salmon fly, and a selection of older mayfly patterns; dates are unknown, but many of the dressings appear to have been made early in Woolley's career; there is speculation that they may have been personal favourites, good sellers or successful patterns reserved for certain clients. .They provide an illuminating insight into the work of one of the twentieth century's most highly respected professional fly-dressers, known for its quality and innovation." "Woolley is one. who has the somewhat exceptional qualification in his line of business of knowing something of anglers' entomology and of making a genuine endeavour to produce accurate representations of insects." G.E.M. Skues. PREVIOUS PRICE £25.00.

Lars Sundstrom (illustrator). (Hardcover, 2012). 2012 1st edition. Large landscape format (262 x 246mm). Pp200. Colour photographs & watercolour illustrations, pictorial end-papers. Green cloth with gilt fly vignette to upper board, spine titled in gilt. Unobtrusively bumped else very good in slightly used dust-wrapper. "Sven-Olov Haard first came to my notice some years ago, as a salmon fly-tyer of considerable note, not least because he ties flies 'in the hand' - that is without using a vice. I soon learnt that Sven-Olov was one of the finest tyers of the present (or, indeed, of any period). His work covers the era of the classic salmon fly as perfected by Kelson, Traherne and the famed commercial tyers of Hardy Bros; flies from an age of plenty when materials were not the issue, only perfection. There are many who claim to have what it takes in terms of skills to tie the classic salmon fly, but I doubt whether a handful can come up to the consistent and meticulous standards set by this man. I say this without reservation, knowing that it has always been Sven-Olov's overwhelming need to tie flies as they were intended by their originators - anything else to him is heresy. It is a wonder to me that Sven-Olov has not been published earlier." From the Foreword by Terry Griffiths, compiler of The Essential Kelson (2011). Beautifully illustrated with watercolour paintings by Lars Sundstrom, and with superb colour photographs of Sven-Olov's fully dressed salmon flies. .

Condition: new. (Hardcover, 2012). (1633) 2012 new edition. Pp[xxxii],177,[xxii],144,[vi] + 313. B/w photographs, illustrations. Commentary signed by David Horobin. Red cloth decorated in black & gilt. Two volumes. Fine unread copies in slipcase. Edition limited to 100 sets, signed by David Horobin. Latham's Faulconry, or The Faulcon's Lure and Cure. A facsimile of the 1633 combined volume of Latham's Falconry, together with an extensive and learned chapter-by-chapter commentary on Latham's work. With a Foreword by Roger Upton. "Although almost 400 years old, Latham's expertise in conditioning hawks in order to get the best performance is something the commentator believes is still of great relevance today. Latham's own view was that this knowledge, passed from generation to generation by word of mouth, was discounted in his day, hence his desire to write it down for future generations. However, falconry's decline shortly after Latham's death meant that few falconers since have used such techniques and the expense of obtaining Latham's work ever since has meant that his methods are still relatively unknown save for being championed by those who have accessed, deciphered and put into practice the original text. Since 17th century language makes Latham's message more difficult to determine today, the chapter-by-chapter commentary attempts to interpret Latham's methodology for the modern practitioner alongside the scarce original text in facsimile. Notes on Latham himself, based on original research, plus material contextualising his world and work are also included." .
