First Edition
First edition, undated but circa 1948. Hardback. 126pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. Twenty-two short histories of pioneers who have groped through the fog of folk-lore and old wives' tales towards the truths which modern science has revealed today. The author picks out the salient points of the stories and presents them in an engaging manner, and with the countryman's 'feel' for the farming aspect of his subject, which puts him in perfect accord with these pioneers. Michael Ayrton's imaginative drawings remove any suggestion that this is an academic textbook. Book in good condition. Boards lightly soiled and with some slight discolouration around the edges. Some spotting to text block edges. A little bumping to lower corners. Spine has a very slight lean. Previous owner's name to ffep and some light toning to endpapers. Dust jacket fair. Unclipped. Generally rubbed and soiled with some discolouration to spine. Edge wear with some small areas of loss to top edges and around extremities of spine. A little chipping to corners. Book.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Size 335mmX240mm. This book has been written in the hope that it will encourage more people to take an interest in our district's past. Canberra in Two Centuries in a pictorial history rather than a scholarly work for which the author offers no apology because it is to the many, rather than the informed few, that he hopes to reach. the book represents no more than an introduction to our history but one that he trusts will engage the imaginations of those who read it, encourage them to go further and instill a lasting curiosity about our heritage and our commitment to its preservation. The back cover has a crease where it has been bent back.
