Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. First edition thus. Published by Chartwell as a trade edition in hardcover and soft cover in 2004, here the book gets the Easton Press treatment. Full black leather binding, lots of gilt lettering and decoration, a photographic pastedown on the front cover, heavily gilded edges, silk marker, and moiré silk (or bengaline) endpapers. After some introductory chapters on the history of lighthouses, their construction, their keepers, etc., there are five sections, dividing North America into regions, with descriptions of the key lighthouses and plenty of color photographs. An index brings up the rear. A fine copy. A beautifully bound and handsome book for the lighthouse enthusiast. This is a hefty tome, nearly 2" thick and weighing in at just under seven pounds, so some extra shipping fee will be required. See also my listings for "Lighthouses" introduced by Michael Vogel, and "The Lighthouse Encyclopedia" by Ray Jones. They make a wonderful threesome.
