Cloth. Condition: Fine. Daniel Schwartz (illustrator). Second Impression. 'Liar,' Sammy screamed. 'Dirty, stinking liar!'. His grandfather took a step and looked down at his feet. 'This morning,' he said, 'your mom and dad was talking about all the trouble they was going to have getting settled in Detroit.Well.it just came about naturally that you would be better off staying with me.' Better off staying in this deserted old house with its porch sagging and the paint worn off and the yard all overgrown with weeds? Better off living with geese in the kitchen and an owl in the bathroom and this crazy old man? The very sight of his grandfather made Sammy feel sick. They couldn't have done this to Sammy. They couldn't have left him behind. 136 pages. Very slight shelf wear to top and bottom of spine of D/J.

At sixteen he enlisted in the army and was sent first to Ireland, then recovering from the potato famine and then to Hong Kong, where most of his regiment died of malaria or other tropical diseases. He bought himself out of the army and settled in Van Dieman's land. He then moved to Victoria for the goldrush where he prospered but then lost his money. In 1863, he volunteered to serve in New Zealand in the Maori Wars. This is a frank and often amusing and very colourful account of the Empire seen from below. Quantity Available: 1.
