September 1949 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, als Minette Caroline Mary Jebb) ist eine englische Schriftstellerin. Leben und Werk: Walters ist die Tochter des Armeeoffiziers Capt Samuel Jebb und seiner Frau Colleen. Deshalb verbrachte sie die ersten 10 Jahre ihres Lebens auf Armeestützpunkten im Norden und Süden Englands. Nach dem Tod ihres Vaters besuchte sie zunächst die Abbey School in Reading, Berkshire, bis sie ein Stipendium für die Godolphin Boarding School in Salisbury erhielt. Nach dem Abschluss der Schule ging sie nach Israel, wo sie sich in einer Gemeinde und in einem Heim für straffällig gewordene Jugendliche in Jerusalem betätigte. Anschließend besuchte sie das Trevelyan College in Durham, welches sie 1971 mit einem Abschluss in Französisch beendete. Minette heiratete 1978 Alec Walters, den sie in Durham kennenlernte. Mit ihm hat sie zwei Söhne, Roland und Philip. Ihr erster Roman, Im Eishaus, wurde 1992 veröffentlicht. An diesem Werk schrieb Walters zweieinhalb Jahre. Der Roman wurde zunächst von mehreren Verlagen abgelehnt, bis Macmillan Publishers ihn für £1250 kaufte. Innerhalb von 4 Monaten gewann er den John Creasey Award der Crime Writers Association und wurde von 11 ausländischen Verlagen angenommen. Mit ihren nächsten beiden Büchern, Die Bildhauerin und Die Schandmaske, gewann Walters den Mystery Writers of America Edgar Award und den CWA Gold Dagger. Auch seine erste Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten aus dem Jahr 1955, So zärtlich war Suleyken, wurde aufgrund seiner neuartigen Erzählweise und der Verwendung der ostpreußisch-masurischen Umgangssprache sehr erfolgreich. Leben: Siegfried Lenz wurde 1926 als Sohn eines Zollbeamten in Lyck geboren. Nach dem frühen Tod des Vaters zog seine Mutter samt Tochter von Lyck weg und ließ den gerade schulpflichtig gewordenen Siegfried bei der Großmutter zurück. Nach dem Notabitur 1943 wurde er zur Kriegsmarine eingezogen. Nach Unterlagen des Berliner Bundesarchivs ist Lenz in der Zentralkartei der NSDAP mit dem Antragsdatum 12. Juli 1943/Beitrittsdatum 20. April 1944 verzeichnet. Lenz wusste davon nach eigenem Bekunden nichts und geht davon aus, dass er ohne sein Wissen in einem Sammelverfahren in die NSDAP aufgenommen wurde. . 1951 unternahm Siegfried Lenz eine von dem Honorar für seinen ersten Roman, Es waren Habichte in der Luft, finanzierte Reise nach Kenia. Über das, was er in dieser Zeit erlebte, unter anderem den Mau-Mau-Aufstand, schreibt er in seiner Erzählung Lukas, sanftmütiger Knecht. Siegfried Lenz lebt seit 1951 als freier Schriftsteller in Hamburg und war regelmäßiger Gast des Literatentreffens Gruppe 47. Gemeinsam mit Günter Grass engagierte er sich für die SPD und unterstützte die Ostpolitik Willy Brandts. Zur Unterzeichnung des deutsch-polnischen Vertrages wurde er 1970 sogar nach Warschau eingeladen. Er ist Ehrenmitglied der Freien Akademie der Künste Hamburg. Seit 2003 ist er Gastprofessor an der Düsseldorfer Heinrich-Heine-Universität. In der erneuten Verfilmung des Feuerschiffs (2008) spielte Siegfried Lenz, selbst begeisterter Angler, in einer Gastrolle einen Angler. . Im Juni 2010 heiratete Siegfried Lenz ein zweites Mal. Im Frühjahr 2014 gab er bekannt, sein persönliches Archiv dem Deutschen Literaturarchiv Marbach zu überlassen. Im Juni 2014 gründete er eine gemeinnützige Stiftung mit Sitz im Hamburger Stadtteil Barmbek, die sich der wissenschaftlichen Aufarbeitung seines Werkes widmen soll. Von dieser Stiftung wird auch seit 2014 der Siegfried Lenz Preis vergeben. Am 7. Oktober 2014 starb Siegfried Lenz in Hamburg. Er wurde am 28. Oktober 2014 neben seiner ersten Frau Liselotte auf dem Friedhof Groß Flottbek beigesetzt. Zuvor fand eine Trauerfeier in der Hauptkirche St. Michaelis statt.
