Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to age-toned covers. No creases, no notes or writing-All pages are clean and crisp-inside front cover has a gift inscription and transfer marks from the ephemera. Alfred Lawson coined the word Aircraft in 1908, trademarked the word Aircraft in 1910 and put the word Aircraft into the dictionary in 1912. Lawson established the first popular magazine for the purpose of educating the public in aviation. He also invented the first commercial airliner with a cabin of sufficient height for passengers to walk erect from end to end and free from crosswires. In 1919, he built and flew an 18-seater airliner for the first time thus putting comfort into passenger airplanes. Laid in are a four-page yellowed newspaper spread by the same publisher addressing more details on Alfred Lawson and the first airliner, plus another four page brochure detailing other accomplishments of Alfred Lawson, which includes on the last page, a facsimile copy of the First Air Mail Contract in America that was awarded to Mr. Lawson. Very Scarce material on early aviation. LOC-SSM-9.
