The first history of the Corps since it was stood down in 1991 by Her Majesty, after its 66 years of meritorious service. Aprroximately half of the book relates to the Corps in WWII. The Corps had a close association with the RAF going back to 1 January 1929 when responsibility for it was transferred from the War Office to the Air Ministry. The bonds between the two bodies were strengthened during WWII. On cessation of WWII hostilities the Corps was stood down for 6 months and then reformed to continue its voluntary work in aircraft identification and reporting until 1955 when it took on the challenge of the nuclear reporting role, a task which ti carried out with distinction for the next 36 years.
