Author's series featuring Black characters, Peter and Archie, with Willie the dog. Urban setting, kids playing in neighborhood. Archie is eating an ice cream cone as he walks. New on the block, a cat catches his eye and follows. Nearly done with the snack, Archie sees his pistachio ice cream mustache and beard reflected in a store window. Finding an old cane umbrella, he rounds the corner and says shakily to his friends, as he bends over', "Make way for your ol' gran'pa". The children giggle. Willie the dachshund eagerly jumps up and licks Archie's face. Play continues as Pete, Archie, Willie and the cat put on a show for the others. They find a big paper bag, paint a face with eye and arm holes. Choice entertainment until the bag excitement suffers from the leaping cat. Very good. Top right small sticker scar. Light reading edge wear. 1st printing Aladdin Books edition. 1970 author copyright.
