Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, top of page block dyed pale green as issued, price clipped, no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a nice copy. 315pp, illustrated. William Bridges Adams (1797 -1872), was an author, inventor, coachbuilder and locomotive engineer. He is best known for his patented Adams Axle, a successful radial axle design in use on railways in Britain until the end of steam traction in 1968. He also invented the railway fishplate. His writings covered all forms of land transport. Later he became a noted writer on political reform, under the pen name Junius Redivivus (Junius reborn), a reference to a political letter writer of the previous century. Jack Simmons (1915?2000), who wrote the Introduction to this book was an English transport historian, and emeritus professor of history at Leicester University.
