Wie ungelesen. - John Michael Crichton ['k?a?tn?] (* 23. Oktober 1942 in Chicago; 4.

Includes 5 full-color fold-out maps of the West Bank, the Golan Heights, Israel and its Neighbors, Jerusalem, and the Gaza strip at the end of the book. Also includes a Foreword, as well as chapters on The Study Group on Arab-Israeli Peacemaking, Interviews and Consultations, Acknowledgments, Lessons Learned, Opportunities Lost; The United States and Arab-Israeli Peacemaking: A Report Card; Making Peace among Arabs and Israelis: Lessons Learned and Relearned; and Recommendations for Future Administrations. Also includes Appendices on Timeline, 1967-2007; Selected Documents and Primary Sources; Online Documents and Primary Sources; and Recommended Readings. This book sets forth the definitive guidebook on how to broker peace in the Middle East. It is the product of the United States Institute of Peace's Study Group on Arab-Israeli Peacemaking, which brings together some of America's most respected and experienced authorities in the field, including William B. Quandt, Steven L. Spiegel, and Shibley I. Telhami. The book draws on months of groundbreaking consultations with over one hundred statesmen, political leaders, and civil society figures who have defined Middle East peacemaking in our times. Negotiating Arab-Israeli Peace sets forth a compelling, interests-based framework for American engagement in the peace process; provides a critical assessment of U.S. diplomacy since the end of the Cold War; and offers a set of ten core lessons to guide the efforts of future American negotiators. From a U.S. Institute of Peace statement when this book was first published: As Washington struggles to revive the Arab-Israeli peace process, Kurtzer and Lasensky offer the definitive guidebook on how to broker peace in the Middle East. President Bush's recent attempts to reinvigorate the Middle East peace process will fail unless his administration pays more attention to lessons learned in past negotiations, say Daniel C. Kurtzer, former U.S. ambassador to Egypt and Israel, and Scott B. Lasensky, Middle East expert at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP). The authors of the new book Negotiating Arab-Israeli Peace: American Leadership in the Middle East conclude that there can be no endgame, two-state solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict without the United States playing an active role in spurring the negotiations. "The absence of American leadership during this administration, combined with a blatant disregard for what worked in the past, has harmed American national interests and set back the quest for peace. Yet our research shows that no other third party has the kind of influence that the U.S. has in Arab-Israeli negotiations," says Kurtzer. "In fact, over the last 40 years, the peace process has never moved forward in a meaningful way in the absence of U.S. leadership." "No one can deny that the intensification of the conflict has destabilized the region and hamstrung America's position post-9/11," says Lasensky. "Without continuous, constructive engagement, the United States jeopardizes many of its own security and foreign policy goals. But the decline in American diplomacy has been a relatively recent phenomenon, and it can be reversed. Our country's influence remains substantial, and there are many past American achievements that can be the basis for a new starting point." With the clock running out on the Bush administration and its efforts to forge a Middle East peace, Kurtzer and Lasensky offer ten core lessons as well as policy recommendations to guide the current and, more likely, future administrations in future negotiations. The next president must establish the Middle East peace process as a priority early in the administration and must convince all parties that Washington is committed to resolving the conflict. "Winning back the hearts and minds of both Arabs and Israelis must be a top priority, but it can only be the beginning. If the United States does not make the effort on a sustained basis, we cannot expect others to fill the gap, and the situation will only deteriorate in the long term," Kurtzer says.

He currently is a Senior Advisor at the Center for Naval Analyses, and has worked in or consulted for the Office of the Secretary of Defense/Director of Net Assessment, US JFCOM/Joint Center for Operational Analysis, Under Secretary of Defense (Policy), Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics)/Director Defense Research and Engineering, Joint Staff, USAF/Office of Long Range Planning, Marine Corps Combat Development Center/ Wargaming and Assessment Division, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Institute for Defense Analyses, Combatting Terrorism Technical Support Office, and the U.S. GAO. Dr. Mandeles is the author or co-author of seven books, and articles, reports, and essays. National security decision makers face an uncertain world where the accelerated growth of knowledge has changed the character of technological advance and destabilized long-standing relations within and among the military services. Dr Mandeles separates the principles that guide decision making from the proverbs through a case study of decision making in the early post-World War II period. This study examines the impact of organization on the invention and development of jet propulsion-in the form of the B-52-and illustrates both the organizational conditions conducive to developing new operational concepts and the organizational innovations necessary to implement new technology. This study also examines how the Air Force organized to learn and acquire new technology, how the Air Force conceived or identified problems, and how it organized to ensure management would respond to program failure or errors. Attention is devoted to the origins of the weapons system operational requirement, the initial concept of operation, the evolution of technology, organizational structure, and implementation.

This copy also contains a tipped in programme for "A Service of Commemoration of the Six-Hundredth Anniversary of the Battle of Harlaw 24 July 1411" as well as a pamphlet produced by Aberdeen council covering the battle One of the bloodiest battles in Scottish history and a devastating defeat for Clan Donald. The battle of 'Red' Harlaw, fought on 24 July 1411 is one of the most famous fought on Scottish soil, and infamous for the ferocity and duration of the fighting. However, it still remains something of an enigma. Donald Lord of the Isles, spurred on by a dispute over the Earldom of Ross with the Scottish regent, Robert Duke of Albany, led a Highland host to burn Inverness and descend upon Aberdeen. At Inverurie the Highlanders clashed with the smaller Lowlander force of Alexander Earl of Mar, son of the infamous 'Wolf of Badenoch'. The Highland clansmen flung themselves against the Lowland spears, their fearsome long swords and sharp axes doing fearful execution. Wave upon wave of the mighty highland force charged forth, only to meet their death at the hands of the more efficient Lowland force, fighting against the odds. Casualties on both sides were heavy as the carnage continued throughout the day. At dusk, the Lord of the Isles withdrew, leaving the blood-soaked field to Mar's hard-won victory and almost 1,000 of his Highland soldiers dead. S3.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This brief history identifies and interprets the rich cache of surviving archival and primary records relating to the Virginia colonial plantation that came to be called Belle Isle. After a long history as a Native American settlement visited by Captain John Smith in 1607 and 1608, this Rappahannock River plantation was first patented by Thomas Powell (d. 1670) as English settlers were pouring into this part of Virginia in 1650. In 1692, a Huguenot-Anglican immigrant clergyman named John Bertrand (c. 1651-1701) purchased this 500-acre plantation that he later enlarged to 924 acres. The abundant documentary evidence for the Belle Isle plantation is enhanced by archeological studies of the site and its preservation by the Commonwealth of Virginia. In transactions consummated in 1992 and 2015, Virginia purchased virtually all of the land contained in the 924-acre Belle Isle patent John Bertrand received from the Northern Neck Proprietary in 1698. From these acquisitions the Commonwealth has created Belle Isle State Park. A Brief History of Belle Isle Plantation has a chapter on each of the patent holders of the plantation during the colonial period, including the French merchant widow of John Bertrand - Charlotte Jolly Bertrand (1659-1721). The annotated index of 434 names has 191 entries for persons who lived on the plantation during the colonial period (of whom seventeen were indentured servants and more than 100 were enslaved African Virginians). Facsimile reprints of original documents and maps, a bibliography, and two appendices (a plantation timeline and eight family trees researched in Virginia and western France) add to the value of this work.

Focusing primarily on the Mvskoke (Creek), the authors provide a detailed historic timeline that is tied to the functionalist view of sociology as it is reflected in the institution of education in general. Knowles and Lovern examine the policy from the critical perspective with the application of Habermas and Freire. They argue that the functionalist mode of education has furthered the cause of colonization and its attendant cultural destruction. The emancipatory possibilities presented by the work of Habermas and Freire are mined for their application to the deficits created by the historical and continued colonization of Native Americans. 191 pp. Englisch.
